Now I know why some of you guys like this turbo so much.

Holy CRAP what a difference ! :D

I just finished the transformation from:

CPT66BB w/.63 ex housing
60lb Mototrons
15 row stretched SLIC
65mm ported stock TB & doghouse
Single nozzle alky control
22psi boost on Sunoco 93

To:

70GTQ (std journal brg) w/.85 ex housing
83lb Seimens
GN1 front mount
70mm Accufab
Precision 70mm plenum
Dual nozzle alky control
22 psi on Sunoco 93

Obviously it spools a little slower... but holy crap does it scoot once it gets cranked up.
The slower spool really doesn't inhibit the cars performance at all... in that it acts as traction control. The drag radials and suspension on my car seem to work pretty good too... so she grips n gits no problem at all.

I can't wait to take this screamin little bitch to the dragstrip. :D

I doubt she'll make a single digit pass the way it sits without a hard transbrake launch... but I'd be damn surprised if it didn't click-off at least a low 10-sec run on the first try. ;)

whats the GN 60ft...

PS.. where the hell ya been for the past year??

Haven't had it to the track yet... just bought it from Jbenn911 in Feb and have been working on it a little at a time ever since.

I sold the other GN in August of '07. That car is tearing up the streets of Ontario right now. ;)

What did the car run with the old combo?

It went 11.40's @ 18psi with the previous owner.

I haven't raced it yet since I bought it in Feb... but I am no stranger to fast cars. I had two Camaros a few years ago that ran 8.30's & 8.40's @ 160-165... an 86 T-type that ran 11-teens on a shot of nitrous, and another 87 GN that went 10.90's on the stock motor.

That said, my "butt dyno" tells me this one should easily go into the 9's with a TH400 and a transbrake.

Unless Russ Merritt wants to build me a Grumpy 200R4 trans. (I see him reading the thread) lol

Thats Right

Been there done that  . Not sure of the rest of your set up? You will be very impressed if you have all your ducks in a row. Good Luck play it safe;)

Wait until you get it to 25 psi+. The 70 on my stock stroked engine doesn't come alive until 25:D

What stall converter are you using? Thanks!

9.5" Vigilante 3400

I don't think I'd want one much looser... I've always had a tendency to run tighter (than recommended) converters.
It's easier to make more power than to tighten up a converter that's too loose. :D (I still plan to put nitrous on this car ;) )

The car actually feels more drivable now. The 66bb/.63 would start spooling under part throttle/light load conditions. Made it fun, but difficult to drive gently. It was either ON or OFF boost... like a switch.

The boost curve on this 70GTQ is more gradual/linear... and it definitely feels like it's breathing better with the .85 exhaust housing.

I'm almost wondering if I could have gone to a bigger turbo (74/76) instead... if I went to a dual ball bearing unit.

What exhaust trim was your 66? I believe the quickest and fastest with 3 bolts was a 70HPQ. You hit a backpressure issue with 3 bolts way before you can maximize the potential of the larger compressor wheel.

Your GN looks very nice. Pretty much the same I would have mine setup. If I had one lol. Right now I'm working on my Syclone project. Looking to buy a 67GTQ or 67HPQ, with a billet wheel. Standard bearing. The previous owner changed it from a SyTy downpipe and flange to a Buick turbo type. The custom headers and downpipe were made that way, and I'm not changing it back because this was some nice work done by MPE out of New Jersey.

Anyways, I just wanted to comment on how nice your car is. Would love to see some vids and 1/4th mile passes. Also, if anyone around here sells a used mint 67-72GTQ or HPQ turbo I need one....

Glad that your new combo is working out. I'm liking my street manners more with the stock location intercooler, so sounds like our trade worked out well.
