INEEDAGN...or anyone else
What kind of street manners would a BR have...is the part throttle kick a big deall, I will probbably never run this thing hard, max RPM 4000, and just street/highway /cruise shift points.
Would this BR need internal hard parts updated? drums/shafts etc?
Tag......317-1t83br0098 would this make a good street rod/driver unit. I'm not looking for something that wil rattle your teeth when it shifts under normal cruising mode.

Honestly I've never even seen an early BR in person, only the BRF. I was hoping one of the volume builders would chime in on the other thread. The CR you mentioned in another thread for 150 would probably work ok for what you want, and unless you are making more than 350-400 HP there's no need to go crazy internally, just get a few basic upgrades. Maybe Chris or Bruce will jump in with the 83 BR experience.

Just my opinion

I knew there was a thread about an early br not long ago so I went and found it. It doesn't give the final word on them but it is food for thought. I figured you should pick up the CR instead simply because it is half price. Of course, if you plan to have it rebuilt, $150 is a bit steep for a non performance core. If it is supposedly a working trans you might just try it as is and see how it works for you. Make sure it has the chevy bolt pattern on the case. Also you need to dig through a summit or Jegs to get the correct bracket for the carb you are using. These trans. use the cable for pressure control rather than just for kickdown and they are very sensitive to minor geometry differences. The cable system is the same as the 700R4. Lockup can be controlled in a number of ways. Hope this helps.

Also there are many on here with more hands on performance 200-4R experience than I currently have, so asking for me in the thread title may actually lessen the useful info you gather from the post. No biggie though. :D

I guess if you're not looking for max. perf. the CR would be fine. If you find one that's in good working condition just install a mild shift kit & bigger servo.
You can always fine tune the shift points some what with the gov. if you're not satisfied with it.

Somewhere I recall hearing that they got better in 1984, and GM upgraded a few things as time went on. As old as it is, if you aren't buying a known good rebuilt, it will need a build. The stator support was soft in those early models (the splines wore); there will be a few hard parts that need to be upgraded.

As you are looking for only a cruiser (I type, while licking the salty rim of my glass), a later known good trans might better serve you.

Check the listed vendor's sites for parts costs... (Do you really want to get into that)?
