84 Exhaust manifold alloy??

Bought a set of 84 manifolds in a lot better shape than the ones I took off the car for the major overhaul of the engine..need to weld up a couple of small cracks on the manifold which i know are stainless..Does anyone know the alloy type or number? Would also like to put a few pieces in here and there for strength. Figure I will have to TIG it but maybe there is a stainless steel rod available now that I could use on my stick welder.. Thanks.. mike

Probably want to TIG if you can.
Use a SS rod as the headers are low grade SS.

They are 409 stainless.

I dont think the grade was that good. The last set I had welded my guy just used some steel rod. Nothing fancy. IIRC he said he couldn't get the SS rod to stick. Sorry I cant be more specific than that. Its a very,very low grade of SS though.
