we just overhauled the engine now the car wont start. it has spark but the fuel pump is not turning-the relay is good and so is the fuel pump we tested that.also the check engine light is not turning on so i cant even check for a code or anything.

Has spark?

You have an operating fuel pump... where did you test it? In or Out of the car?

No check engine light? Burned out bulb?

Never knew one of these cars to have spark and an inoperable ECM.

Spark? How so?

Until you show otherwise... I am moving towards "Intercooled prank." :D

Could be a lot of things.
Since you rebuild the motor, I would start by re-verifying the cam sensor and plug wire locations.

Having said that, fuel pump not running is a separate issue.
Hotwire/prime the pump via the white wire by the coilpack and see if it starts.
Is the oil pressure sender connected?

i tested the fuel pump in the car. when i turn the key on the check engine light turns on and you can hear the fuel pump primeing, and its not doing that anymore. i have double checked everything and it all seems to be correct. i check the spark with one of those spark testers.

So, let me get this straight;
The engine cranks over, you have spark and injector pulse, but no fuel pressure.
The pump used to prime with the ignition on, but no longer primes.
The oil pressure sender is connected.
Does this sum it all up?

i did everty test in the basic hotair info. .i dont have injector pulse i tested that also. the only thing i havent test is the computer. or is there something else i should check? by the i really Appreciate everyones help

Did you check the cam sensor?
You can also get a spare ecm here. That way, you will know for sure.

Check your grounds, especially those behind the head.
The HA's do not have the ground cables in the back of the head.

Take a close-up picture of the cam sensor plug and post it.

by the way, this is why it got another engine(and that engine was overhauled)

 What happened there?

Seems I may have forgotten more then I thought! I remember the carbureted cars had a whole cluster of them, thought the '84-'85s had fewer but in same location.

It does seem like a ground problem.

Do you have a wiring diagram of the whole setup?

I am a little confused; did you say there is no check engine light? Is the orange wire hooked up the battery for the computer? Make sure to follow that wire to the ECM to make sure you have juice there. Che your fuses too.
Sometimes I also noticed a weak battery will prevent the car from starting especially the hot airs I don't know why.

After looking at your pics one more time, it clearly shows that or I should say it looks like the orange wire for the ECM is not connected, if it's not, that is your problem!!!!!!!

Someone correct me if I am wrong...

Again... HOW WOULD HE HAVE SPARK?

:D

It is that factor that is throwing me off on this one.

That shattered piston is shocking to say the least!

you were right it was the orange wire. my dumbass thought it was for the ac which was removed.lol. i was going to start the car but when the pump was priming one of the fuel lines was broken and it was pissing fuel everywhere so now i have to fix that before i can start it.ill keep you guy updated
