What cars have people gotten their 86/87 ecm from? I went to the junkyard yesterday and looked at every car with a 3.8 buick i could find, including 86 and 87 model cars and i couldn't find the right one. Are there specific cars that have them? make model? I looked for the front wheel drive cars and they had some different ECM number (service number)? The ecm number is on the sticker on the outside of the ECM right?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Nathyn

I copied the below info form a post a while back. The comments in() are not mine, and unfortunately I did not save the person's name, so I do not who to give the credit to.

From the Hollander Interchange Manual, 1993 edition.

Hollander interchange number 1554.

ECM, GM service number 1227148.

86 3.8 FWD Buick (Park Avenue)
86 3.8 Century (small FWD)
86 3.8 Cutlass (Ciera, FWD)
86 3.8 FWD Olds (Delta 88, Ninety Eight, Regency)
86-87 Regal 3.8 turbocharged
89 Firebird 3.8 (turbocharged)

Comments in parentheses are my own. BTW, the coil pack on any of the above FWD cars will work on the TR also. These
years came either with the Magnavox one piece coil or the Type II coils/module. Might as well grab it while you're there.

Aloha,

C'mon, there is no need to be a smart ass... Thought the buick crowd went fast with "class". I guess there are exceptions.

so ANY ECM from one of these cars will work?!? Just take it out, and it will be plug and play?

Yes, the ECM will work - IF it has the number 1227148 on it. But you still have to have the TR specific EPROM and the little chip (I forget its name) from a TR in there. (The little chip is just a set of resistors whose resistance is used as the default reading for a sensor when the sensor itself goes bad.)

Didn't you see it says Mean Scott under his call letters??

Oh and Mean Scott, that would be the CalPack, which at one time could be had from Casperselectronics.com. Maybe he still has them.
