'86 T-type round ball

After 24 years, still finding things I know nothing about on this car.

What is that round plastic ball, driver's front side, behind front bumper and directly below the fuel return canister? It has a vacuum line running to a plastic tee. Tee also goes to cruise control module.

What is the purpose of the ball?

Vac line to it, then a Vac line to cruise control diaphram. What keeps the cruise at speed?

I'm pretty sure it's for holding/storing vacuum.
