My bro is very close to getting his 87 GN back on the road, but before he parked it for the engine rebuild the tranny would severely slip on the 1st-2nd wot upshift. He has the money to rebuild it what would be a good thing to do, buy a rebuild kit and take it somewhere? Or just take it to a reputable transmission shop and let them do it? He wants it to be able to handle 450hp to the wheels and wants nice firm shifts. Does anyone sell a good tranny overhaul kit?

I'd send it somewhere that knows what they are doing.

You might try Phoenix Transmissions in Weatherford. Tell Greg and Scotty I send you.
Jakeshoe on this board might be a good choice also but he is a little further away from you.

While your in there get the billet necessaties. No sense in doing it more than once. Do a search in this section to get an idea what is available.

Good luck! Post back to let us know how it goes.

Yeah I think he said he is going to take it somewhere he hasnt decided yet, but he wants to pull the tranny off the car and take it to the tranny repair shop while he is waiting for the last of his parts for the engine. I will tell him about the shop in weatherford, and also search for the good stuff to put in it.

I had to look up where Cresson is. You are pretty close to Phoenix and I've heard good things about them, I don't know how familair they are with the 200-4Rs though.

I'm about 45-50 minutes north of Ft. Worth, 5 miles off I-35.
