i am thinking about buying this 95 firebird v6 and it wont pass ga emissions. the guy says a bad shift solenoid. any ideas on what it cost to fix. and what problems that would cause. i can get it to pass emissions lol. but what problems other than that will i face.

i think it is where would it be located in tranny or like the side of it. what kinda problem does that cause when those go bad.
 
Could be stuck, and skip gears. It's in the valve body. You might be able to change it in the car, or you might have to drop the valve body down.
 
They are at the back of the valve body and there is a clip that holds them in. Just unhook the electrical connector, the clip and pull the solenoid out. The "B" solenoid is spring loaded. The "A" solenoid is not. Only have to get a new pan gasket and a filter if you are going to be into it anyway. The solenoids are not that expensive. Dealer item is best as I have used aftermarket solenoids and they don't seem to last very long compared to original GM solenoids.
