I know chevrolet and fisher bodies made performace versions of G-Bodied cars... We have the buick t-type, grand national, and gnx, the Oldsmobile 442, and hurst olds of 83-84, and the monte carlo SS... but did pontiac make a turbo version or a HIPO version of the 79-83 grand prix? maybe a turbo model or v8 version. If so SOME ONE PLEASE POST PICS:biggrin::biggrin:

Fisher body had nothing to do with making any high performance verions of cars- they just built bodies to the specs of the other divisions.
there is a possibility that there might have been some turbo V6 GP's in the late 70's- when they also did the turbo Monte Carlos- but i don't think they did any turbo V8 cars. i've never heard of such a beast, tho, and i think a turbo 301 V8 like they used in late 70's Trans Ams would have been more likely, given that the GP tended to be a more heavily optioned- and thus heavier- car than the rest of the G bodies.
but there were a lot of V8 powered 78 and later GP's- altho i think the only "performance" version was the 2+2 with the fugly nose and slanted rear window like the Monte SS aerocoupes had.

There was a turbo(2.8) W-body model in 88-89 but do not recall a high performance G-body GP.

There was a V8 GP version similar to the MCSS Aerocoupe... 'nascar' style... no turbo version... I think UNGN on here has one with a big block and richmond 6-speed and road races it..

The Grand Prix only had what was called the 2+2. It was produced in 1986. 1225 of them made. Powered by a weak tit 305 V8

Yes, there was a GP turbo produced but it is even more limited than the 82 GN. I've actually seen one but it was a krispy criter when I saw it. It had the 301 turbo motor in it.

A local guy selling a salvage '90 3.1 Turbo ASC/McLaren GP. Probably the closest thing you would ever see with Turbo and Grand Prix in the same title.

Deeper in thought.....I wonder if I could add that turbo system to my '95 GP, hmmmm?

Here's the Grand Prix 2+2. Beautiful cars, but nothing really special performance-wise. Same as the Monte SS Aerocoupes, they were built to meet NASCAR homogalation rules for the 80's aero wars, so GM could compete with the Thunderbird.

I know you didnt ask this, but they made a Turbo Pontiac Sunbird J-body back in the early 90's that was pretty rare ---

They made turbo Grand Prix's in the early part of the 90's. Front driver though. Can't think of any rare performance Pontiac G bodies. The 2+2 Aero Coupe is the only rare oddity I know of, but not really a hot rod.

I test drove one back in the early 90's. Fairly quick for that time with a 0-60 time of about 7.1 seconds if I recall correctly.

That car looks absolutely atrocious, almost as bad as the Pontiac Aztek..

i think the 2+2 is cool and looks good......i dont have to worry about someone calling it a cutlass or monte:eek:....but my mom bought one new and it grew on me.....restoring it now...

the 2+2 didnt have the HO version of the 305 and only sported a 3:08 gear... the production number was 1118.... the glass was larger than that on the MCSS aero..

Agreed, It looks swollen, like the plastic nose is overtaking the headlights and the rear window is trying to pop.
I see why its cool, but not my thing...like aero coupes....Diff strokes for diff folks!

please describe it...

Not much to describe. It was the SJ option and a long time ago. I think it was an 81 but don't hold me on this. It's been over 20 years since I saw it at one of the salvage yards I used to frequent. I'm guessing that the turbo got to hot because the under hood stuff was burned up pretty bady.

A buddy of mine had an '87 SS Aerocoupe in high school. At the time, I'd only ever seen the notchback cars, and had never heard of the Aerocoupe. I thought it was very odd looking. But being around that car over the next couple years, I fell in love with it. Now I prefer that style; it's the notchbacks I find odd looking.

Sadly that car was lost in a fire 10 1/2 years ago. :frown:
