Hello everyone this is my first time to post on this forum and thank you for reading my post! I have been saving money for awhile and been looking at getting a Grand National or a Buick T-Type. My passion for these cars goes back to when I was a teenager and actually almost bought one over thirteen years ago. It was a perfect condition 87 GN with only 11,000 miles on it. I would say I regret not buying the car but I picked up a 71 Z28 camaro in about the same condition and had many of great memories with the car and my father. I sold the Z28 about five years ago because of money issues and now want another special car. So now my love for the Turbo Regal is back in full force and I am almost 99 percent sure this is what I want. My question to everyone is what if any is the differences in the years between 84 through 87 on these vehicles? Also, my first choice is of course a GN but if I can find a T-Type in better condition is there a huge difference in performance or anything that I need to know of that will disappoint me?

The engines in the 86 and 87 cars are alot different and these cars are a good bit quicker in stock form. If you aren't into pure speed the 84 and 85 cars can be had cheaper but are more expensive to make fast compared to the later years.

Is this because of the fuel injection? Or is something completely different in the motor?

First off welcome to the board.

Stay away from the 84/85. Go with the 86/87s. Much more vendor support. Plus they're intercooled.

Same motor and trans in GNs and Ts.

I see they are intercooled! I tried to read about this I had a friend a longtime ago tell me to stay away from the 84s and 85s just did not know why. Thank you very much!

My last two cars

Here are a couple of pictures of my last two cars and a few toys I'm working on a couple of jet boats.... The cars unfortunately are gone and I miss them both, but I am still working on the boats. Anything that goes Fast I love! I cannot wait for the right deal on a GN or T-Type to come my way!

Nice 2nd gen Camaro.

All 1984-1987 turbo Buicks were fuel injected. The 1986-87 models were factory intercooled, the 1984-85 models were NOT intercooled.

The main difference between the GN and the T type is the GN's were black, and had a grey interior with black and grey seats, black and grey lower door panels and a rear deck spoiler...1984-85 GN's came with aluminum rims and 1986-87 models came with chrome steel rims.....whereas a T type came in any color of the fisher color rainbow with chrome bumpers and aluminum rims. Both cars share the same engines, transmissions, rear ends.

Either one you be happy with, though a GN typically sells for a little more than a T type.

thank you

Thank you for all the information you guys have given me. Hopefully, I can find a turbo regal in good condition preferred stock or minor mods and well maintained! when I do will send pics. Also, If anyone knows of either a 86 or 87 GN or t-type for sale in good condition that is not way expensive give me a email would love the help! Thank you all!!

Where are you located?

Have you checked the classifieds here? Lots of turbo Buicks for sale. They're not exchanging hands like they were a few years ago.

Where are you located?

Gotta agree here. Go to your user controls and add some info like location. That will help you on the future if you need someone near you to help. Welcome aboard and remember these cars are a PITA when they're not running right but are fantastic when they're running right.
