My AC is not working and I notice the AC Clutch kicks in and out for about 3 seconds. No cold air at all.

any input on what this might be?

thanks

Dennis

Sounds like it is your high pressure switch. $11.00 or so at Autozone. This happened to me last year on the start of a 120 mile drive in 100 degree weather - that was a hot drive.

Agreed, Low on charge, (Or restricted orifice tube) Jump out the low pressure switch, see if she stays running. (Don't do it for too long or you'll freeze up the evap coil.) Or better yet, put on some gages and see what pressures you have.

Do you really need AC in Alaska or am I wrong about the weather? It can't get that hot up there right?

I get asked that alot, people seem to commonly think we drive dog sleds, live in Igloos on top of a frozen Glacier.. :D

However it is baking 87 degrees here yesterday (well we call that baking).

Interior Alaskan summers are very sunny warm and nice. About 3 months of the year you wish you had AC.

From what I remember of Alaska you shouldn't get temps like that until next month. Should be June through August, shouldn't it?

Rich, if the low pressure switch is jumped and the compressor stays running and system gets ice cold, would this be a symptom of a faulty switch?

Very possible.
I just ran into this yesterday.

Take a screwdriver and note the orientation.
Turn the scew CW and than CCW a few times, 1/2 turn at a time.
Try it again and see.

K, screwdriver to what?
Mine has a white plastic looking piece where the electrical (2 prong) connection connects to, is this the "screw" your talking about??
I didn't know this particular part was adjustable.

I appoligze if this seems like a hijack to the original thread......

it is inbetween the 2 prongs a tiny screw. you will see it when u pull the plug.

Dumb question here but.....How do you jump the low pressure switch? Also does anyone have a pic of it. Thanks

Ok.....found the screw and adjusted it....clutch worked fine....added R134a and now I have cold ac. No unusual sounds from the compressor, no visible leaks, ect. l will run it as until the winter. Then I will get a new compressor, dryer, switches, and have an ac guy do the work. Thanks for the info. U guys saved me from a sweaty hell.
