AC Compressor Smoked.......Need advice

Well, I had a cold R-12 system....... until I stopped at a traffic light the AC got warm, compressor locked up and the clutch started smoking. . I know I need to replace the compressor. Now what else should be done along with this. I'm assuming the reciever/dryer/accumulator should also be changed at the same time? How about any o-rings in the system, do the new components come with new rings to seal everything up? I've done some research here and decided I'm going to go with Freeze 12 fof refrigerant. How about oil in the system? Do new compressors come with an oil charge already, or will I have to add some? Can the condenser and evaporater be flushed and blown out with anything before I reassemble the system? What about a variable oriface? Will it be of any benifit to me since I will not be going to R-134a? Sorry for so many questions, just trying to do it right the first time. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

i used to do this stuff for a living
def replace reciver/drier, when you get the new pump there will be a tag it will either say it comes with all the charge oil or it will tell you to drain the shipping oil. but i would switch to r-134a its soooo much cheaper than r-12 which is $50 per lb compared to 12-15 for 134. and if you set your air compressor to about 10 psi and you put a small amount of oil in the line you can blow out the condensor and evaporator. and make absolutely sure you have the system recharged with some dye in it . and dont try to charge at home with those little bottles unless you have an electric vacuum pump to suck down the system first, otherwise you ac will suck.

I do have an HVAC friend that will let me borrow his vac pump so I can properly take the system all the way down to do a proper recharge. I'm planning on using Freeze 12, it's a non-flamable R-12 substitute. Costs about the same or less than R-134a. From what I have read most pople have good things to say about the stuff compaired to 134a, so I figure it's worth a shot.

Replace the orifice tube as well as the reciever/drier. The orifice tube is in the high side line on the pass side. They tend to get stuck in the line, if it doesn't come out easily there is a tool to remove it that sometimes works. When you remove it, you'll see pieces of the compressor rings ground into pieces and stuck onto its' screen. Definitely flush the system, I'll even let you borrow my flush equipment if you need it.
