ok so i replaced all the ac componets in the gn got it filled up last season and now its dead .... i can put vaccuum to it with my hand pump and it seems to hold. my question is can i fill it with compressed air and check everything with soap and water?

Yes, technically you can, but you'll introduce a lot of moisture to the accumulator. You be better off using Nitrogen. If you must use shop air you'll need to evacuate it longer to remove the moisture. If the dessicant in the accumulator is already saturated, you may wind up sending it over the edge, requiring replacement. But in a bind, it'll work. Dont go over 150psi though.

I used shop air - no more than 90*. Found leaks with soapy water. Installed new reciever / drier. Evacuated it over 3 hours with a commercial evacuater.

38* at left center vent. Found a pro in my area who was glad to use R12.
