I have almost new motor mounts both sides on my GN. Is there any advantage of going to a poly mount on the drivers side instead of using a torque strap? And is a torque limiting device really necessary?
If you say it is, then will a new poly mount w/o strap be the way to go?

If you are going to do Polys go with both sides. You wont be sorry. Once you do this no tie down or torque strap necessary. Ive got both sides on mine, and the engine under torque does not budge :D wouldnt do it any other way. Just barely idles a little rougher opposed to the rubber mounts ( I mean barely) but are worth there weight in gold;)

The HRPARTSNSTUFF motor mounts are well worth the install. I would personally recommend both sides. Eliminate the torque strap. This setup has been low 9's so far with out any down sides. The newer generation mounts are also using a slightly softer material. These things are awesome. Your engine and car are smoother, the power and torque are not wasted as much and you get rid of that ugly ratchet strap attached to the front of your engine. This will also eliminate the risk of damage to your alternater, alt bracket and cylinder head that can be produced by a torque strap. Do it and do not look back. Order a set here.

motor mounts

have the poly's and like them, motor was already out of car, figured why not, no false knock

I thought I had read in another thread that having poly's in both mounts made you feel every vibration. For those of you that have both poly's, is that correct? Thanks.

polys

i don't notice any unusual vibration, have both poly mounts, and is high hrspwr street car, elevens at 15 lbs. on pump gas, no alky

strapless w/driver side mount???

So those of you with only the driver side mount, did you ditch the torque strap?

paul

This is weird, some people compalin they get vibration from these mounts. I hav both in the car and my car has VERY little vibration. so little it doesnt bother me and my engine has pretty high hp. It was a b!tch to install but well worth it. The car feels SOOOOOO much tighter now it is unreal.
good luck.

I started that thread because I thought I had read about people having more vibes with the poly mounts. I definitely have a nasty vibe, but I don't think it's the mounts. The vibe started after an engine replacement, so it could be anything. I haven't taken the advice in the thread yet and tightened them down, but I'll probably do that today.

The engine does sit higher, so I might have contact somewhere that I didn't have before. I know it's hitting the heater box shield (had I known this was going to be an issue I'd have taken it off while the engine was out). IC is higher, might be hitting something. I dunno what it is, but I'd definitely buy the mounts again. Good product.

My engine looked like it was trying to climb out of the compartment with the stock mounts. I went with just the driver's side. The left side stays put, the right side does squat down a little. 90% better than before. Cured almost all of my flase knock from the downpipe movement. You won't need a torque strap with one or both.

There is a vibration. I'm getting used to it. The dash started buzzing from the vibration. Once I cure that, I'll be happy. :) If they went to a little softer material, they would be perfect, IMO.

Without the mount (HR) the engine would seem like it was going to rip out of the car:eek: Now it is very stable. There are also ALOT of people who have broken their fisheye hook on the alternater with the strap. I bought the poly bushing and then the GM one. What a POS the GM one was. This thing looked like my kid made it in nursery school:rolleyes: Paul should've told me to buy 2, but I guess he likes telling people the truth  His mount looks like it belongs on a Mercedes or Bentley or something.

YES! :)

Have the heavy duty one (drivers side) on both cars.

With the mease pipe and ATR exhaust on the GN I will be trying to buy the passenger side softer poly one for that car to gain more clearance of the downpipe to frame rail near the hollow cat.

I snapped a torque strap bolt on salvageV6 the first week I got it. Replaced the bolt with a forged eyebolt from McMaster Carr that never broke but the strap is gone. :)

GN had a bad drivers side mount and that netted me 39* KR on that car when it torqued over.

All is well now.

Yes there is slightly more vibration in both cars, nothing objectionable for the level of performance.

Both cars daily drivers, yeah it's a tough choice which one to drive each day.

some guy's "vibration" is nothing to others.... I HATE vibrations...they are comin out with a new "softer" poly....I will give them a try...oh by the way I have never had a "strap" on any of my cars....I replace the mm's every 3 years or so...BUT these are only low -mid 11 cars:p

This is exactly what I'm talking about. Maybe my definition of a "bad vibe" is being too picky?

I broke three different fish eye hooks before I put these mounts in. When I pulled the engine to replace it, I did the mounts as well and found out why I broke 3 hooks. The drivers side mount was toast. I could pull it apart and see that it was barely being held together.

Moral of the story, GET THE HR MOUNTS AND NEVER LOOK BACK!! No torque strap, and my car rocks when I hit the gas not just the engine. No weird vibrations either and I have both mounts.

poly mount

I threw my torque strap away after i installed the poly mount on the drivers side still have the stock one on the passengers side. when the motor moves so does the car. Before i installed it the motor was climbing a big hill. awesome mount and i don't feel any vibration:)

Anyone have any hard performance results before and after replacing the mounts, from less wasted torque?

1/2 second & 20 mph! Oh sorry, that is for the turbo 6 keychain :D

With so many other variables it is too hard to tell exactly what gains are there performance wise. I have found the most obvious performance difference to be that the power goes to the rear just a split second faster with the poly mounts. It all adds up, like our rear control arms letting the suspension move more freely. All this gets the weight transferring quicker, which gives you better traction, which gives you a better E.T. It's kinda like the combo all working together gaining off each other by working together. Got to be something there for my car to run 1.40 60 ft's at a 10.70 level :)

Best gain is you never have to worry about the motor mounts again! My theory is, if you are going to do it, do it right the first time out. As for vibrations, the original poly that we used transferred a slight bit of vibrations from holding the motor too tight & not allowing it to move much at all. 99% of the cars were OK with this, but there were a rare few that it seemed a bit much. So, in our never ending goal to be perfect & have 100% customer satisfaction :) we had a custom mold made up with a separate part # to get a slightly softer poly bushing made up. We also re-designed the mount slightly to allow it to bolt up tighter easier, and the new ones don't raise the engine as far as the old ones did either. Haven't heard anything but great feedback on the new mounts. Putting the pair on verses the drivers side only really only adds to the vibration a very slight bit. It's like 10-20%, not like twice as much like you would think. We recommend the pair for mid 11's & faster, but it doesn't hurt to have the pair on a 13 sec street car either. It's nice at that point, but not a necessity. Vibrations are still OK even with a pair & our poly trans mount installed. Got a lot of daily drivers setup like that & love it.

And for getting rid of the strap, you can ditch/throw/sell/burn in a satanic ritual/ or tie up your dog with it once you install a poly mount. This applies with the drivers only and/or the pair as stated above. You may be one of the lucky ones that never had the privilage of breaking your alternator or accessory bracket.

Oh yeah, got an update from one of our customers at the Bristol event this year. Our Poly motor mounts on Ritchie Kibbler's car (hope I spelled it right) went 8.30's!!! Even Jack Cotton got a set for his car after breaking some stuff. He had some great wheel's up launches & had a fun weekend after that. Congrat's to all that did well at Bristol, it was a good event! I am getting my pics together from there & the nat's right now, so they should be on our site in a week or so.

Sorry for the length, hope that clears it up. Thanks for all the positive feedback too! When things get frustrating (and they do!), the sound of a happy customer keeps me going :)

Hey Paul can you order just the passenger side in either flavor of poly.?

Also, about those swaybars.... :D

I know you are out there watching.... or is that the aliens? ;)
