I had a summit line lock on my gn when i bought it, and the brake pedal would slowly sink to the floor after about 4 weeks of driving. Turns out i was getting air in the front brakes. bleed them, fine for a few weeks. There is a recall for the cast iron combination valve, so i did it and replaced it with the brass valve. Free, so why not. Still air in front. Started to freak out, cause of high$$$ powermaster. Removed line lock for the he(( of it and FIXED! Just wanted to let anyone know of this problem with the summit brand line lock.

I think the line lock would have been ok if installed AFTER the combination valve. It was installed right past the master cylinder outlet. Anyone heard this?

I seriously think I have the same problem. My brakes have been very "weak" ever since I installed the line lock. Maybe I'll take it out and see what happens. And yep, I also have the cheap summit line lock.

hmmm..

i use to have a linelock installed, and i think it was the biondi linelock, same brand as the summit unit $39.95+tax, i replaced the proportioning valve with a brass one, problem was still there, replaced the accumulator valve, same problem, took off the line lock and whala problem solved.. i think this particular linelock may have some issues, anybody else had this problems chime in..

How odd. I have the Morosso/Biodo brand installed right up by the master cylinder. Been there for about 4 years or so, and not a single problem????

EVERYONE (Turbobuick Folks that is :)) Installs thier line-locks next to the master Cylinder. My car, as well as EVERYONE I've ever seen at the track, has it in THAT location.

Are we all Wrong????

Yeah, pretty much.

If there are air and or water leaks it won't matter where you put the line lock.

Yeah, we're all wrong. The right place is after the combination valve, but we all just put it next to the master cylinder :-). Only downside is that the brake light may come on when you do a burnout and won't go off until you step on the brakes to stop at the starting line. I have the Biondi valve from Summit and had no problems bleeding it out to start with and no problems whatsoever since then.

I should install it right on my car after the combo valve but:o I think I'll take a nap or watch a movie instead:p

read the instructions

If you place the line lock solenoid at the master cylinder you won't hold get the maximum holding pressure, think about it... you mash the brakes, engage the line lock, let off the brakes and the pressure on the front brake lines decreases? why? because of the piston that is inside the porportioning valve, no pressure on the rear brake lines but there is pressure on the front brake lines, so the piston moves toward the rear brake lines and the line pressure decreases, usually you will get the brake light on the dash to come on. Now if you place the solenoid AFTER the porporting valve, the pressure on the front brake lines will stay the same, I found this out the hard way, the second try I read the directions and it works like a champ now ;)

Not in my experience. I think they're holding hard enough, after all, I can push the locked front wheels down the road on a dry surface and they don't turn.
The line lock is there to hold the car for burnouts. If you're trying to use it to hold the car at the line, and trying to build boost against the front tires, then you're using if for something it was not intended or designed to do.
It was designed to hold the car for burnouts, and manual trans cars on the line to prevent roll out. period.

I have to agree with snaperhead on this, i think the line lock should be after the valve. now it may work at the master, but it didn't work for me, and it didn't work for a few other people, and saying you are using a line lock for the wrong thing is kind of silly. If you want to try to build boost against the front tires, go right ahead. it won't work, that's what S10 wheel cylinders are for. So i say use it for wahtever. period;)

Before or after , they should all work as Turbo Dave described. I have installed no less than 3 Biondo/Moroso units and all work like a charm. The one in my car has been there for about 2 yrs.

this is my personal experience.

I had a linelock installed on my car at the master cylinder, I would stage and lock the front tires to do a burnout the car would push right through the front tires it would not let me do a nice burnout, i tried and replaced the valve unit and the accumulator ball , and still did the same, fanally I gave up on the line lock and took it off, also I have to agree with snaperhead, the line should be installed at the botton after the valve not on top by the master cylinder, it really makes sense to install it there, more holding power is applied to the front tires and you dont get the brake light to come on, the next one I am installing is going after the valve were it should be, and not by the master cylinder.. :D

I think I'll move mine this weekend to after the proportioning valve. After all it's definitely not working right where it is, and it will get rid of some of the 'clutter' in the engine compartment for the shows too. I'm going on memory here, but I could have swore there were two lines out of the proportioning valve to the front brakes, not one like the rear. I must be wrong there.

Would the valve work if you put it inthe rear brake line. So you would engage the line lock, THEN press the brakes and hold them to lock the front wheels?

And on the subject of brakes, has anyone put braided stainless brake lines to the front calipers? Does it help? I know it makes a HUGE difference on the motorcycle. But I never hear of TR guys doing it on their cars.

My line lock is after the valve. I did install the russell SS brake lines. They look nice and have to be better than the old squishy stock rubber ones. Do not have the suspension to gether yet so cant tell you if I feel any difference. My old ones were flexing too much under pressure.

just got my line lock in the mail and was looking

i was looking at the installation after the valve, and you will need to plug the line going to the right front brake, use the line going to the left front brake (the one coming from top) and connect linelock to it, use a T from the linelock and hook both brake lines to it, and you are done, looks simple but time consuming, I think in the end is well worth it.. now i got a new project on my hands :).

Well, in 15 years with these cars and seeing 1000's of Line-Locks
installed next to the Master Cylinder, includiing 3 of my own, I'm just passing on what is RECOMENDED and Stated by: the GNTTYPE Website, and ALL the Vendors.

But I'm sure it IS possible we're ALL WRONG! Until Columbus came along everyone thought the world was Flat!

Mine is installed next to the MC without any problems. I sort of like when the brake light in the dash comes on, didn't need to install the indicator light that comes with the line lock.:) At least when it comes on I don't have to worry about what is wrong with my Powermaster.;) (vacuum brakes, heh, heh) Was sort of ticked off that the only time I went to the track this year it wasn't working but it didn't have anything to do with where it was installed. Turned out to be a bad switch, so I ended up doing up a new ashtray switch panel and used one of the switches there for the line lock.
