Just an observation I've noticed since installing alky:
My engine performance on hot/humid days is WAY better
than before with 110 fuel in the tank.
I'm really impressed with how well it runs in the heat, the
engine seems basically uneffected by high temps.

That alky's got quite a quite a cooling effect on the
intake charge!

It rocks in the hot weather. Just think it can give you a 40% reduction in intake air temps.. Motor kind of feels like its 50 degree's outside.

Great to see your having fun with it,

Julio

yea, great in the hot weather but what do you do when its cold out.i guess park the car cause my car dont go no where but sideways. :D

Methanol does work great in hot weather. At e-town a couple of weeks ago I raced both Sat. and Sun.

Saturday was hot. Temps in the mid 80's, humid, felt hot as **** out there. Car was running 12.2-12.4 all day @111. No knock or anything, car felt good and the 02's and EGT's were fine. Probbably could have pushed it a little more with a couple of degrees timing, but I felt the gains would be minimal and I wanted to be able to drive the car home (6 hours round trip for each day).

Sunday was cooler, low 70's and much less humid. First pass was 12.1 @ 113 without changing anything. Ended up running 11.96 @ 114, again without any tuning changes, just driving technique. So I picked up 3 MPH with just good air.

Side note: All runs were done at the same boost, right around 25. I think the good air on Sun. allowed it to just creep over 25.

So In my experience, Alcohol works great in hot weather. It will suppress the knock like it's supposed to. However, give it some good air and it'll go even better.:D

Yes, major cooling effect. After a good blast down the road, pull over somewhere safe, and feel the pump....it is very cool. Nice to know it has that effect on the intake charge for the engine.

Oh yeah, the car is insane on a cool/crisp morning.
I'll usually hammer it in the morning on the way to work,
gets my heart pounding every time!:D

Hey Tim...
I see you really got that T flying, way to go!

Methanol Tuning

OK, you guys seem to know how to get these things running on methanol! Perhaps you could offer some advice to speed up my 1/8th. My best 1/4 with pump gas and SMC kit, JC 93 chip is 12.57 @ 112. I know there is lots to be had with this ET, but it's so sloooow in the 1/8th (8.3@88mph), I suspect drowning in fuel. I'm not ready for a new "progressive" kit just yet...;) so do I turn down the FP? Or get a chip control fuel better? O2's in the 1/8th 855 down to 815...then 800 at the 1/4, 23 psi, no KR. What do you guys run for plugs? TIA for thoughts....

First thing I'd do is get an alky chip. The 93 chip isn't set up for the alky.

Methanol Tune

Very good point. No sense tuning the setup for this chip trying to correct it's shortcomings. Talking to Eric as we speak to get one:D

What am I shooting for? High 700's? I need a limit, KR is the obvious one, but like a 750 O2 or a 1700 egt to know that I have to stop..getting dangerous? Any generally accepted guidelines here?

you want to be high to mid 7s.i didnt beleive it either til yesterday. car pulled like a mother and only had 2 degrees knock on the 1,2 shift. went away quick after that;.:D

There are limits to everything. You just have to find what your comfortable with.

I like low-mid 1600's EGT's = O2's in the 740-760 range. Same with boost.. I dont like past 27-28 PSI.. tho have been to 32 on occassion on the stocklong block. With heads and cam.. things come apart pretty fast.

KR less than a couple degrees, actually zero past the 1/8 mile mark.

OK, Great! Thanks for the input guys. I'll do some playing this weekend...while I'm waiting to hook up with Eric's chip. Then I may need to start all over, but hey, this is fun! I've been waiting for years to have everything coming together and the car running this good:D
