Trying to help out a friend. He has an '85 with an Alky Control system installed. The car is running way rich coming off the line. He's stuck at low 12's with methanol, about .2-.3 slower than when running 110. What is the size and location of the nozzle that you are running on your Hot Air cars?

Typically M15, in the turbo to intake adapter.
You have a TT HA alcohol chip on this thing?

what are u using to determine its way rich? stock 02s typically will read really rich down low, i would try pulling fueling out of the chip if its a turbotweak, and if not then tell him to order one. If the problem still persist, then remove a bit of fuel and add in a couple degrees of timing in 1st and 2nd gear and see if they alleviates it at all. I run the nozzle on the back of the turbo outlet (adapter) and its an M15.

Thanks for the feedback.

I know that he is running a Turbo Tweak chip, but don't I don't think the chip has been burned for alcohol. I've suggested that he pull some fuel out of first, but I don't know how much he removed thru the chip. I know a little about his setup, which includes a 61 turbo, 210/208 cam, ported heads, and an AC n/l converter. He is launching at 4200 RPM. Last Saturday night while running race gas and the car went 12.01 @ 111 and 12.04 @ 112. However, when on alcohol the car is blowing black smoke out the exhaust when leaving the line, but at around 100' it clears up. Also I remember hearing him say that the O2s are up in the mid 800's into second gear.

I'll be seeing him Saturday night and we'll try to get it figured out.

I'd be curious.... this may be a stupid question but is he running the same chip on both race gas and alky or does he have a specific alky chip? If he is running alky with the race chip he is probably really rich and a specific alky chip would fix the problem. Damn good times from a hotair as well.

I know that he runs Eric's chips, but I don't believe that he has a chip burned for alcohol.

Do you know the approximate boost and RPM?

Saturday night, on 110 race gas he was running 22# & 26* and was shifting around 5600 RPM. He was leaving the line at 4200 RPM and pulling 1.61 60' times.

My experience has been run either a race gas and very little alky or run a little bit of race gas and a lot of alky. Doing a lot of both make is too hard to ignite the fuel and it runs too rich.

Well after last night, he is still riding on cloud nine. He was running 110, the air was great and he made a personal best pass, 11.71 @ 113. But, after me running 11.36 @ 117, he still seemed interested in trying the alky again. I guess that time will tell.

Pat, Those are some GREAT numbers!
With alky, and all else begin equal, he should expect +5-7 mph, conservatively.
