I am tuning in my new ALKY system and it seems to be doing a good job. I am tuning using the monitor 2000 and trying to lean my car out based on o2 volts and knock. When using race fuel I had around 42 or more lbs of fuel pressure and 22 or more lbs of boost. This would allow the car to run between .71 and .79 o2 volts. I cant seem to get the car leaned out with the alcohol system. I have turned the fuel pressure down to 37lbs and am still around the .81 range. Does anybody have any suggestions? How low of fuel pressure do folks usually run with ALKY systems? I have a TA61 turbo, 009 injectors 3 inch down pipe, stock torque convertor, stock ported heads, mild cam, stock intercooler and a half. I recently bought the car from my father and 10 years ago it would run 10.9's down the quarter on race gas.

Fuel pressure should be 43psi with the vacuum line off the regulator and plugged and 38 when connected to the regulator. The car should be reading .780-.810 in 3rd gear pulls to keep it safe and with no knock. When using race fuel .750-.770 is not bad. You would be better off using a wideband A/F ratio gauge. We don't move the fuel pressure around to tune in the fueling on the TR's anymore We have advaced chips like the Turbo Tweak from Eric Marshal and Commander from Bob Bailey. HTH

the 90s are gone and things from back then should have been left there

, get a modern chip designed for alky and 93 , get a real scantool and a logger like powerlogger

you say your tuning your new alky system , is this a DIY thing you built ??
what pump? what nozzle? whats controlling the pump
diy is ok but you take a lot of the learning and setting it up onyourself and the learning curve abuse on your car will more than likely end up with engine damage

if you have a street chip thats good for say 17psi and you introduce alky ( with proper volume) then you shouldnt need to be pulling fuel at 22psi boost unless your alky volume is too much, either run more boost less alky
what boost are you running at ?? what chip are you running ?' whats the timing in the chip? ,
what boost was it burned for ? a race gas chip will have more timing and more fuel

a 93 street chip works well with alky but the timing will be low (unless its an old school 22-26degree 93 chip )
turbotweak chips are adjustable for WOT fuel and timing , and if your ready for leave the old school TT also has wideband control chips and speed density chips

also get a modern monitor for tuning , the otc2000 tends to read 100mv higher than the scanmaster that we use for tuning so leaning it to 700s isnt a wise move ,
and tuning on narrow band o2 is risky , you should be tuning on KR ( as in no KR) and pickup of mPH , if pulling fuel make the car mph slower than you shouldnt be pulling fuel but safe to say if it was tuned and ran fine on the chip you have before turning the alky on you either need to pull fuel or increase the boost when the alky is introduced

oh and fYI to run 10.9s on fuel only with 42s the car was running way lean as the injectors would need to be run static (100% duty) and still be coming up short , youd need elevated fuel pressures and big cohonies (or cluesless ) to try it on 42s

Sounds like he's trying to run alcohol on top of a race gas chip=no no.

More ALKY questions

Thanks for the tips. I know I am deffinately stuck in the 90's as far as tuning goes, but I wanted to go to the track and have some fun before I spent more money. I did order a chip from turbo tweak and it should be arriving any day. Hopefully that will fix some of my problems. What is a realistic expectation of boost level I can safely run with 93 and my ALKY system I bought from RCJ racing. They were saying to tune the fuel down to 37 and you had stated to keep it up around 42 with the line off. I did get it leaned out to the .81 range. Is that what I should expect with my ALKY system and 93 octane? Thank for the help and responses. I need all the help I can get! It seems like 20lbs of boost was the most I could get out of it with my current race chip and no knock. Should I expect to be able to run more boost when I get my turbotweak chip? Again thanks for the suggestions!

i dont know why anyone would suggest turning the FP to 37psi , to suggest RJC said too i just cant beleive that
alky only sprays under boost somewhere between 6 and 12 psi depending on whos setup. if your chip was designed to run at 42-43psi fuel pressure ... what do you think is going to happen to the fueling when you're driving around idling and before the alky comes on if you dropped the fuel pressure to 37psi ?
fix fueling for alky with the chip , turbotweak chip is adjustable for WOT without affecting your driveability before the alky comes on.
tt alky chip will also have more WOT timing (somewhere around 23* 1st and 2nd and 21* in 3rd.) so dont go driving around boosting with the alky off unless you go into the chip and adjust the timing back to safer level for 93 of 19*/17*

you say RJC but he has sold SMC in the past first non progressive and then more recently progressive and now smc is no longer doing kits RJC sells razor kits
what kit or controller do you have ? (take a pic of the controller and the pump setup)
if its an older kits the pumps like to seize up from corrosion , newer progressive SMC keep an eye on the pump and test it regularly looking at the pump as you test and plan on changeing the pump before too long , hopefully when it starts leaking youll catch it before you blow the motor but really with no active KR or o2 like the scanmaster offers i doubt youll notice it until it goes BOOM

btw what do you have for a fuel pump , is it hotwired , when is the last time the fuel filter was changed ?, is your fuel pressure going up 1-1 under boost? , at 43 psi FP and 20# boost you should see 63 psi fuel pressure
get a scanmaster ( led knock gauge isnt a bad idea either) ,
the otc is only going to get you into trouble because you wont notice kR until its too late and your fun day at the track could turn into a ride home in the passenger seat of a tow truck , happens more often than you would think.

Thanks again for the response . I have a double fuel pump. I will look into getting a scanmaster and knock gauge. The alky system is the new one he sells with the PAC sensor.

Go to TurboTweak Home and order a chip.

I'd be also advising on getting a new fuel pump due to the age yours has. And hot-wire kit/fuel filter to bring the fuel system up to date.

Start on these two.. go from there.

EDIT>> just read.. why would you have a double pumper on 42's? Thats like hooking up a garden hose to a fire hydrant. Either way.. pump's' have been in there a very long time considering the fuel's' today.
