I am in the debat on changing the dash in my gn.Trying to clean it up inside so i am thinking of taking 3 gauge pod out,and installing them gauges into dash. Then buiying a tac, a speedo, fuel gauge etc and wiring it up like a gnx style dash. But then again i like the dakota digtal dash, but looking at that looks like a pita, and i might as well wire it up and put own gauges in.I have looked threw a alot of posts and there is alot of info to absorb. But no real holy crap this sucked or wow this wasn't so bad.So i guess here is the question if in my position would you go with dakotas dash or gnx style and why.

I see casper has a wiring diagram and the board to wire gauges to stock connecting which means no hacking, which is a plus if ever go back.Dakotas looks like you have to cut alot and figure it all out...oh what to do any help guys with experience of either way...

also if go to gnx style does a vender make the plates, to mount gauges anybody know...

Thanks in advance guys

Type in GNX dash on ebay. They are expensive, but the GNX one looks the best. I bought just the dash plate from someone on the board, but I think they don;t sell them no more, I'm not sure. If you buy the caspers adapter it won;t be so bad to wire, other wise it will take you all day to install or more, you may have to hack out the back of the plastic the dash to make the gauges all fit.

You can get these from Paul Castle at World of Motorworks.

I bought the dash plate, bezel and applique form him on E-Bay, then installed my own gauges. Used my existing VDO gauges from an AVC (GNX Style) Dash I had laying around. Here's how it turned out.

Looks good Davepar... the digital gauges are hard on the eyes after a while I would not do it again..

I'd say go with what YOU think looks the best. I was lucky to find a Dakota Digital here and got EVERYTHING needed to install including the modded dash inlay and dash insert. The wiring was easy to follow and I got a few wiring diagrams here and piggy backed off the C-1 connection.

i was looking to do seven gauges ..on it iam not so worried about cutting up back piece in dash i found a donar regal dash to hack up.I followed 681tonburbs write up and i went on speed hut for gauges which i like the fact i can make my own color, needle fon't etc....Gauges would be $850 ish.but can't find a plate pre made yet or even a template of one.i like the gnx but want my own type thing...

Thanks guys for pics etc keep them coming...

696 did you have to use seperate sendores with dakotas or does it use the factory wiring and senders...

Hey Mike ,
Sent you a PM on the wiring you can use all the stock wiring from the idiot gauges so as long as you make the plug and play dash conector you only have to worry about adding wiring for the speedo and tach, Ill update my web site this week for you. with speed hut gauges you wont need to cut the inner dash parts for room there so thin that only the outer panel will need to be modified.
Here is a link to my web site has some good info on it Ill add more this weekend I just have been so busy I didnt finnish the how to yet.

You have to use the Dakota Digital senders but I used the factory wires going to them, just made jumpers with the needed ends. Works great.

I like the Cyberdyne, however, I understand it's no longer available. Red digital readouts replaces the dash cluster.

I have an old AVC GNX style dash in my '87 GN and use VDO Cockpit series gauges that I am swapping out for the Vision series soon. I know a board member on the "other" board makes just the plates to mount the gauges in that looks similar to the GNX style. He has several different plate options as well. I think he has one that'll hold 7 gauges. The only thing I didn't like about his was that it eliminated the idiot lights.

pm ya back i saw your site looks bad ass from what i have seen.I am going with speed hut gauges for sure.Since i like that i can pick color, font, lettering and make all my own is sweet. And i don't want a ton of wires to everything .I will make plug and play so if ever sell it can just come out simple.
