have any of you heard of this tire, or about running this tire on the street? it's a dirt track tire that i've seen on two imports now and they hook very well on the street. it's a super soft compound tire.

I've ran them before, back in the day they were kinda the middle ground between a true slick and M/H's (a popular slick/grooved street tire way before Drag radials)and very similar to the more expensive Mickey Thompson "Sportsman pro" they'll even wrinkle up like a slick if you run them low enough. They hook good but need some heat to make them sticky. Plus they handle like.... a bias ply tire cause they are. IMHO in the long run money wise, your better off with a good drag radial, Nitto comes to mind. Why? Cause they, the G-60 Road Star's(I think that's the name of them) don't last long.

Yes, they are the old McCreary...

personally, I like them better than M/T-E/T's, BFG-DR, and the Nittos. They hook better than anything I've tried, especially when you lower them to about 20 lbs, on a 8" rim and warm them up. Great street performance, safe on a rainy day, will last you about 10K miles or so. Reasonable prices.

FWIW,
I just put some L/60/15 American Racer tires on my limited. They are mounted on 8.5" vector rims. So far they seem pretty darn good. I have them at 30psi for starters and they drive great and hook really good too. I did two launches so far, stomped brake and goosed it till the boost swept past 5lbs then let go and the tires spun for about 4-5 feet then hooked solid. As a comparison the Nitto's would have been up in smoke for about 60-70 feet

Here is a couple pics:

The tires have 9.5" of tread, have just under 11" of cross section and are 27.7" tall. Needless to say they give the car a different look;) I am pondering the idea of rolling the fenders and see if I can get them up in the fender some to try and bring the back end of the car down.

Your opinions are welcome.

Tim, where did you get them. 2yrs ago i tried to buy some from a speed shop in Baltimore and the rep in the mid west no luck.
I was told they stop production mid summer. I used them years ago and liked them.

i heard some import guys saying they have them at speedunlimited over in maryland.

I ordered mine from Weisel Racing Equipment in Pa. The price is decent and the delivery was very prompt. They deal with Dirt track stuff so they should always have a good selection in stock. I did see them on the tire rack at Speed Unlimited when I was there buying my QA1's but forgot to check on the price. Give them a call and see 1-800-SPEEDLT. Let us know how much. Here is another site with a pic of the tread pattern.

As you can see on the last link some of the sizes have different tread patterns and the only one I am certain of are the size I have.

UPDATE

I finally rolled the lips of the fenders up a little nothing drastic. I like the way it rides and looks much better. Dorve it around quite a bit today and not a hint of rubbing.

What do ya think?

Looks better. The rear was up too high before IMHO. What are you running on the front?

Fronts are 225/60/15 BFG Comp TA HR4. They have been discontinued for a while but Summit still has a few left.
