I came across a wrecked (front damage) 1982 Mercedes SEC500 AMG. Anyone have any info on these or where I can find more. It looks like it was a pretty cool car. I am curious about the engine specs, it is a v8. All I can find is about later model Merc's. Look like torque monsters:eek:
Any help or links are appreciated.

Go to the SW section and ask for Victor aka "my1stgn"- He's a Benz Tech...

I will get more info for you about this car. I only work on 98 and newer vehicle's but we have a bunch of techs that work on older vehicle's. If you could get the vin also I will be able to tell you more info about the car as far as its history and if its a real AMG. Ill let you know Monday!

Okay I talked to both of our Shop Foremans (at different times) today and they pretty much both come to the same conclusion.

Both said not to get it for the following reason.

Even if the car is free or and a cheap price (couple hundred bucks) in the long run its not worth it if something breaks. These cars have CSI injection which is a type of mechanical fuel injection. When they are not tunes right (which is very common when they get old) they are a pain in the ass to adjust. Also the head for the csi usually fails when they are old or have many miles. Before it used to run $400 for the head on the csi. No they run $3K because benz hardly makes any parts for these old cars and the parts they make are waaayyyy expensive.

Also, if it is a real AMG, then this car is a grey market vehicle. This means that the vehicle was brought from overseas and someone (not mercedes benz related) installed all the smog stuff to make this car legal in the states. This means none of the stuff (smog stuff) on the vehicle is MBUSA and the vehicle has been tampered with to get it to pass smog. MB did not bring any AMG's in 82 or previously. And if its a real amg the parts will be even more expensive.

And last, youll stil have to spend money to fix the car and it will probly never gain the value amount you put in. hope this helps

I wasn't going to fix it, the frame is bent. I was thinking of selling parts off it. The car itself was intriguing to me. 2 dr hardtop with nice design. I may grab the ground effects to re-sell.

Almost forgot....Victor,
Thank you very much for your time and looking into this for me.:)

Actually I was going to say the cheaper way would be to just go directly to the source. I'm sure there are tons of parts over in Europe. Just for the heck of it search eBay Europe and see what comes up. I do it all of the time when I'm looking for export parts for American cars. There's some neat chit over there. I've also seen a few gray market cars in the yards down here. Much like Chevys and Fords you have to be into them to tell the difference. If I have never seen them on the track I couldn't tell either.

They are sweet cars, I bought mine to put a GN power train in. Mine has 250K miles on it and runs like a champ. I don't have the heart to rip it out yet. it is an 1984 AMG SEC 500. I will see if I can attach a pic of mine but here are the links.
