Need some help with some analysis. Got to the track yesterday for some test-n-tune. First time with the new engine. The car runs better than ever, but I don't think it's running nearly as well as it could be given my mods (see sig). It was mid/low 40's out. MAT temps were in the 50s. I'm running 275/60 BFG DRs. Varied pressure from 30 down to 20 - wouldn't hook. Running 94 octane and alky (straight denatured). All launches below were just a punch from a dead stop - no brake boosting. The DRs wouldn't allow anything but a 0 PSI launch. I could only get TLink data on the one run where the O2s were 820. I'm thinking my boost gauge isn't right. It's showing a lot of boost but no knock (last time out it was showing 24 psi of boost on 94 octane with no alky and no knock - I find that hard to believe). Yesterday, I had no knock at all except for some minimal blips on run #5. I know you can't tell me much with out scan tool data, but do the numbers suggest anything other than a lack of traction? I know it's bogging out of the hole, but that's because I'm launching at 0 boost. Extender chip, 21/23 timing (98 octane)

Run #5:
25 degrees WOT timing via T+; 23-24 PSI boost?; alky, 820 O2s

R/T: 0.744
60': 1.91
330': 5.178
660': 7.895
660 MPH: 90.33
1000': 10.286
1/4: 12.269
MPH: 111.64

Run #4:
23 degrees WOT timing via T+; 23-24 PSI boost?; alky
R/T: 0.903
60': 2.01
330': 5.324
660': 8.058
660 MPH: 89.89
1000': No Time
1/4: 12.442
MPH: 111.6

Run #2:
21 degrees WOT timing; 23-24 PSI boost?; alky
R/T: 0.765
60': 1.957
330': 5.327
660': 8.026
660 MPH: 89.36
1/4: 12.44
MPH: 110.76

TIA,
Jim

Well, traction-wise, I think you're on the high end of where you want to be on tire pressure.

I remember one guy on this board relating that some Mustang (forgive me) boys run under 10 PSI on BFGDRs (for safety reasons I don't advocate that, nor does BFG) - it just goes to show you what some guys feel they need to run on short wheel base, high horsepower, manual transmission cars to get them to stick.

If you had a cold track and/or an unprepped or poorly prepped track (???) it wouldn't help...

It was all of the above. On the last run the guy next to me ran a 12.3 @ 117 with a 2.4 60'. I thought my MPH would be more or less independent of the 60', and that the MPH would actually drop a bit if it hooked better.

Thanks,
Jim

TJ,

I agree that you're down on performance, but I don't have an explanation.

My T ran 11.24 @ 121+, stock heads, 26-27 PSI.

My GN ran 12.01 @ 118+, stock heads, 26-27 PSI, 95 degrees and super crappy 60s (52 and a stock D5 - for sure a pig).

I'd want low 11s, maybe even high 10s @ 122-125 with that build-up and boost...

:)

I need to get TLink working. I think I have it figured out. I have the minimum requirements for the 3.0 software on my laptop so I had to disable all of the views except the details. That seemed to help out a lot.

I think it's rich and down on boost. Also, after salvaging some of the TLink runs it looks like the TPS is not getting out of the 4.3x range. It's throwing TPS codes, too (TPS high, TPS low).

I think with some more tinkering I'll get it into the high 11s. That's really all I'm shooting for this year (but I'm running out of "year").

Thanks,
Jim
