hey guys,

I have been picking away at swapping out my carb turbo top end with the hot air goodies and I can't get it to start. I followed the no start chart in the sticky and when I check the connected voltage of the crank sensor it is zero. When I check it with the sensor disconnected on the ignition module side I get 7 point somethin volts. Is this typical of a failed sensor. I have an 87 sensor on the way but I thought I would run it passed the pros to be sure. I tried on both the male and female sides of the connector and get zero.

Thanks,
Cody

You will have to swap engine harness if you have not done this. Also you will have to put in a fuel pump in tank...

Yup it's all done. Wired up and ready to fire. I bought all the parts from one guy. They came off a running gn 10 years ago that was t boned. The sensor looks good. Does any one know the part number for the newer style crank sensor plug?

Keep it simple check for fuel and spark. If you are good there I would then check the harness and cam sensor position the cam sensor could be outside the window and cause this issue stop throwing parts at it and try sprayin either in the throttle body see if it fires. Good luck and keep us posted

Thanks for the ideas. I have lots of fuel pressure at the rail but my plugs are dry. Before attempting to fire I installed the cam sensor according to the gnttype instructions. I also checked the cam sensor operation and it is giving me a varying voltage when cranking on pin b. I sprayed carb cleaner into the throttle body and it didn't change anything. So spark is an issue as well

I checked the crank sensor (first post). It is not operating the way it should according to the no start chart. I checked the esc and its getting 12 volts. What else should I check on it?
I'm also looking at my c434 connector. I had to repin quite a few of the connectors and my aldl has no power to pin B when I test it with my multeter so it won't give me any codes. This is probably the root of my issue.

I replaced the crank sensor and I now get spark but I don't have a injector pulse. The voltage varies when I probe the connector but if I probe the crank pulse pin on ecm connector I get a steady 7 volts while cranking. What would cause this? Faulty ignition module possibly?

Edit

I checked everything over and it seems like my ecm isn't grounding the injectors. I'm going to recheck my grounds but I think I'm in the market for a ecm.

I swapped ecms and nothing is solved. I am at a loss

Thanks

Does any one have any ideas what else I should check? I tried 3 ecms and I get the same results. I swapped over to type II ignition due to the price to replace the original. I'm not sure what else I can check and there is power to the injector harness. Any ideas are appreciated.

Did the car run before you changed everything over? If so how did it run? Post pics of the engine bay when you can, I want to look at your harness and your set up it might help to get more feedback

Did you use a "known Good" Harness. If you did not, you may have to get a harness....

It's been a while since I fought this problem, but at the end it was the cam sensor I thought I had it in correct, and for about two weeks scratched my head on what the problem was

As far as I know the harness as good and it came from a running car.

If the cam sensor is off by a tooth will that throw things off?

I don't think one tooth but I'll put it to you like this when I finally got the car to start after moving my cam sensor like a distributor, it blew what smelled like to me raw fuel out the pipes:bookworm:After getting yelled at by my wife about the fumes coming into the house my buddy came by and flipped it 180• it ran cleaner by that time my oil had fuel in it  after about 2-3 oil changes it was clean. I read many treads about how you can't adjust cs it's either there or not I found this to be untrue. My car had a stumble at this time I move the cs a lil at a time and got it to run right

Like I said post pictures of your set up or to a video of what's going on when you try to start the car it should help others help you. Have you tried spraying either in the tb it should fire up shortly if it's fuel related it will die out but try and let us know your results

I'll try and reinstall the cam sensor. I sprayed some carb cleaner into the tb and it stumble and tried to start. I've got it nailed down to a fueling issue but I can't sort out why the ecm won't ground the injectors. I'll post some pics and videos later this week. Thanks for the ideas

Check your injector harness if it's pinched or cut its a PITA :eek:you can't see the whole thing without pulling the turbo are your injectors used or new? A faulty harness at the injectors can kill the ecm. What fuel pump are you using? Is it hotwired? Are the relays working? More info please bro we gotta get this thing fired up. Take a real close look at the complete harness

Almost forgot what ecm chip and calpak? Make sure your not glowing with static electricity before you touch the ecm this could fry em too
