Hi cruz! Just found this after some reading, its about meth or alky California Vehicle Code Division 12, Chapter 5, Article 16 Table of Contents Looks like meth/alky is legal but just needs a Antisiphoning Device installed under Section 28110 but then the DMV continues to write in Section 28112 that there are exemptions to this rule for 1993 and older cars. So how do I find out what cars are exempt and what cars are not exempt, The Don any thoughts? Just reading some of the laws already I can see some loop holes, but none that would really benefit us yet, sure makes for some interesting reading.

And can anyone explain Section 28113 to me in lamens terms?

I gave up running my car on the street a long time ago. If you don't mind, I'll sit in the pits and watch. :)

All this smog BS is exactly why I keep all my cars registered in TX. They still have my physical address in San Antonio, but the DMV fowards my registration to my mailing address here. CA smog program is a scam IMO. I like clean air as much as the next guy but CA makes it nearly impossible for the enthusiast or hot rodder to enjoy their cars. Its way too easy to target a small minority of the automotive population.

It's going to get worse

Last week, Obama just gave Arnold and the E.P.A. tha approval to impose tougher smog laws in Calif. :(

I guess we have it easy here in vegas...go 45 mins out of town to Nye county get a pobox use a street address that dosnt have a rural mail carrier..(which forces you to use a po box) and register your car there...just show proof of ins and the pink...no smog required...not even a visual inspection, but that too may change as the town gets bigger, but i enjoy it while i can

I would like to see a smog station on the Mexican border & test the cars as they come across.See how many of them pass. Some time back a few years ago they had a trial program to set up smog checks in Tijuana sponsored by our CA. BAR what a joke haven't heard a thing about it anymore perhaps they got kidnapped & held for ransom.

Seriously maintain an address in Fla. & have your mail forwarded to CA. I would even keep your Fla. drivers license & Fla voter registration & that's how you get around that.I have studied the laws & you have the perfect situation.

Cool, thanks.

Hey, you want me to hook you up Lou? I'll let you use my home of record here in Florida, I bought a house here so, I'm registered to vote here and have a driver license here too:wink: Heck, that goes for any of the CA guy's:smile:

You guys should cool it and take this PM. Don't you know CARB monitors this stuff?

smog

Cool, thanks.

I thought is was already to difficult, LMK:wink: Really though, I don't mind helping out a fellow Turbo Buick owner. Seems to me, Arnold needs to divorce that wife of his. She really doesn't help out any with her influences etc. I have always felt sorry for the guy.....

Joe Chung, alias "gofstbuick" on this site, is not only one of the two moderators of the smog section, but he is an administrator of TB.COM. He is also, I believe, in charge of the California Air Resources Board, more affectionately referred to as (CARB) Customer Relations Division of the section that oversees all of the Test Stations, both Test Only, and Test and Repair. Please keep this in mind when posting.

Yeah I agree. I thought I remember the CHP doing roadside smog checks around the L.A. area awhile back?? I think they did that here in a couple places in SD. What a bunch of BS.

I think they stopped the boarder smog checks becuase they were findind more things then just smog of a car to be in direct violation of US law. Another words they got more then they could afford to handle so they dropped it imho, but I have no facts to back that. so what DID they do? there were all those random smog checks in city streets! I saw one with my own eyes in Long Beach on 7th street, and many others posted about seeing some in their city. By the way this random smog check in the middle of a public street was labeled by misleading signs so you wouldn't turn around, such as street service ahead, or caution entering a construction zone. No sign I saw before I went through said anything about vehical inspection or smog inspection. But then again they don't check me and my prius thank you PZEV certification.

DON thanks for the reminder about the CARB monitors here, I did modify my post after reading that so thanks again. How about some street sweeper ducting for your turbo, that 4" brake duct is the same on my t66. I saw a street sweeper modded to an older toyota truck and it had a 5-7" duct hose and I thought of you Don!

Darkcyde. A correction is in order. That's a 5" pipe. Not a 4". The local track likes to run me down the track first during an event to dust it off.

thats good news don, I love corrections! sent a pm so not to snag this thread.

I wonder what the CARB monitors have to say about metallic 200 cell substraight catalytic converters. Or even the 100 cell. I have seen some guys just run 2 100 cell metallic cats and no muffler/s and still pass cali smog sniffers.

Those roadside "tests" were voluntary. But they didnt tell anyone that, in typical copese they made drivers think they had to let them check their vehicle. Their favorite sign was "Survey Crew Ahead".
It was CARBs way of finding out who was running around without smog equipt between smog tests.
CARB can only increase their bureauacy by providing evidence that there are violators on the road.
