I got a 97 acura integra as a daily driver, and the check engine light is on. I jumpered the ecu diagnostic and got a code 76 (reading the times the "check engine light" flashes. Code 76 is Cylinder No. 6 misfiring, but my integra is a dinky 4 cylinder. Anyone know why I have this code 76?

Your just in luck. I happen to work for Honda and can get Acura information. I was going through the Acura service manual and for your year car there is no code 76. There is how ever a code 67, so I was just wondering if you either typed it in wrong or you may have just miscounted your flashes. Either way let me know and I will see what I can find out for you.

Thanks, its really a 76 code and I tried it many times (its 7 long flashes, followed by 6 quick ones). I even reset the ecu (by removing 2 fuses in the fuse box under the hood), and about 10 minutes later, the check engine light would come on again, and I get the same code. Maybe my computer is faulty??

I also forgot to mention that my idle gets a little loopy/high when parked when this light comes on. I even took out the IACV valve and cleaned it (which helped somewhat) and then reset the ecu. The light would come on again and the idle would be a little high when in park...

Ok, I called my Acura store and talked with service and they can't find a code 76. If you can, run down to autozone and have them hook up a code checker for you. There should be no charge for them to do it for you. When they pull the code a DTC code should be given and it usually starts with a Pxxxx and followed with 4 numbers. If you can get me that code I can check my Acura data base and give you everthing you wanted to know about that code including the fix.

Thats interesting... I had no idea those cars had a self test similar to the OBD1 for GM cars. Simple... count the flashes...

Yeah, my best bud is a honda mechanic... if you can get a OBD2 DTC then maybe he can help with ideas. Not only does he work on hondas/acuras but hes owned a ton of them, and done everything you can think of with them. If TwinyTwin can find you an answer, great. But I'll ask my friend if hes got any ideas as well. He just sold a late 97-8 Integra not too long ago if I remember right.
With as many OBD2 cars as my friends, family and I have, I went and bought my own DTC scan tool. Works great, plus we don't have any autozones around here, and everyone else charges for it. Its already paid for itself!

Reset the computer.

Disconnect power from the battery for 10 seconds.

Run the car normally. If you recieve the check engine light once more. Test and recount.

Then post up the results and we'l go from there.

sometimes my beloved Honda's throw bogus codes.

She knows she's as powerful as most late model NA'ed USDM v6's so she's prolly trying to let you know this.

Used to raise & race Honda's.

Does the car run any differently? All of my hondas/acuras always had CELs on...and my VWs too. OBD2 and CELs are hand in hand, typically its only emissions related, so dont sweat it too badly, but I'd take a free scan at AutoZone as well if the ECU reset doesnt work.
