I googled it but just a bunch of Volvo hits

Friend has one for sale for $150.00 brand new in box.

I figure if anything I'll put it on Ebay for some tuner kid but if anyone has info on it , flow etc please let me know

Oh boy...

Here is where it gets confusing.
The T5 nomenclature was created as a catch all phrase to help describe the Large Frame series turbos. It could range from a 90mm inducer compressor wheel with an F-trim turbine wheel, to a 117mm inducer compressor wheel with a slightly larger than G-trim turbine wheel. These turbos were designed from the get go as large diesel truck turbos. The compressor and turbine wheels were redesigned for use in gas burning, higher than 4500 rpm operating engines and would be capable of supporting 1600-3000 flywheel hp on boost levels of 20-35psi.

Then one day, people started calling them T6 turbos. Kinda a one ups man ship sorta deal. Truth be told, T5 and T6 turbos are of similar back ground. These series of turbos are not designed for street applications and certainly have no place being on a small 4 cylinder street driven Import application. They can weigh upwards of 75-90#s and have huge compressor covers. Some with 6" inlets. Precisions' versions of these turbos are the PT91.5 F-trim, through PT114 G-trim. With the advent of dual ball bearing chras, we are just starting to see some of these turbos being used on Pro series Imports. GT4788R and GT5591R on Supras and the likes. It won't be long before we start to see some Pro 4 cylinder cars retrofitting these turbos as well.
Good luck selling it. I would highly recommend you find out more info on it before trying to sell it, as it could simply be a take off diesel truck turbo, and not designed for use on a gas burning, high rpm race car application.
Hope some of this helps a little.

thanx

man my brain couldnt process that much..lol

I havent bought it yet so i think i'll pass..i figured hard to go wrong at $150 bucks.

Patrick's post is great info, but I think you are refering to the T5 turbo off the Volvo T5 car. If so, that is a small unit and not worth your time. They will only flow around 32lbs/min max. If not, then Patrick answered your question above...

Jose

True true. Yeah I could see a T5 Volvo turbo selling that cheep. Definitely not worth your time if it is.

Good to see you around Jose. Hope all is well with you and crew.

T5

Guy said it is big T5 about 80#s..lol it was converted to run at higher RPM but this is what he was told and as Pat said to watchout and make sure its not the plain ole desal.

I really have no way of confirming if it is the modified version so IM gonna pass and spend my money on scanmaster see'ins how im only 2.5 weeks into ownership and I need to troubleshoot my high idle and miss

mike

thanks for the replys

The other thing you gotta be careful of, if this was a dyno queen turbo, or if it's on it's last leg, then you turn around and sell it to someone who puts it on their race car. Next thing you know, you hear the guy had a major incident and his turbo exploded. Things definitely get bad in a hurry when one of these monster turbos go boom. I've personally witnessed one blow a fender completely off a Mustang when it let go. Talk about major carnage.
Besides, if you're looking to put a new turbo on your Buick, anything in the large frame family is a no no anyway. I mean, we just don't put a 1500 hp capable monster turbo on stock motor street driven Buick V6. It no workie.....
Now, if this were a built up to handle 355+ CI V8 single turbo combo, then we can talk large frame. I used to get a kick out of all the import folks that would come over to the booth when were displaying at the import races. The looks on their faces when they'd see a PT106 G-trim was priceless. Lot's of foul language and guys leaning down putting their head beside the turbo to have their picture taken. Funny bunch of peeps. I would always kid with the Honda guys who would ask if they could put that turbo on their car and if it would work. I'd say "yeah, you could always put it in the trunk and use it for ballast. Might take a small 600 shot to get it too spool on your B16 tho."
 :D

T5

Way funny..Ballast..lol

I was thinking of putting it on my 76 stinkray but you set me straight and talked me into passing on it.

Anyway like my last post I really need to get a scanmaster first for the beuhog.

I got high idle like cold start IAC and rough idle at that. 1000rpm with Factory tach, my vacuum is 14 to 15Hg but steady, but it does smooth out when i take it down the road.

Im gonna test my coil pack afterwork but without the scanner I'll be tripping over dollars to pick up dimes and I dont need that.
