I skated a little in the early 80's, I had a Roskopp (it was white with a green arm reaching through a target or something like that) I also had a a Caballero sp? It was UGLY blood red with some kind of gold dragon or something???? I lived by Millers Island skate ramps, they had the largest steel ramp in existance at the time, it was brutal for back then!
I had BMX bikes before the boards, had a Diamond Back Silver Streak, a PK Ripper (I think it was all aluminum???) and THE FIRST lavender trickstar frame Hutch ever built.

I lived and breathed BMX back in the early to mid 80s racing at various NJ tracks including Howell, Long Branch, Flemington and even Englishtown Raceway Park.

I still have my Red Line Pro Line hanging in the garage.

Really? that's cool. I skated with Mike V. once in downtown New Orleans. I skated from when I was ten up until 20 yrs. old. I can't complain it kept me off drugs, taught me patience and kept me in shape. I got out when I realized being sponsored wasn't worth the chance of getting hurt. That was when swithstance started getting popular.
Phil, I remember those videos. One of the Tony Hawk pro skater games has "Wallows" in it. Kinda cool.

I had the coolest Pink Hutch Trick Star back in the day, that bad boy cost $600.00 back in what, 1986. I loved that bike, but it was stolen by some Public Housing Gangster and I never got it back. :( My father got me a killer Diamondback Mike Domingues Strike Zone afterwards, and while that bike was great too, it was no Trick Star.

I check them out on Ebay quite often, and think I may buy one for my daughter when she is old enough, LOL. I'll restore it to factory new except for the rims, I'll put some of those new wheels on it so it can hold up to me riding it.

Great bike! Are those the first generation flight cranks?

The bike is probably worth a lot more now than you paid for it new.

Yes, those are the original Flight Cranks. I've no idea what I had invested in that bike over the years as I built it piecemeal starting with a 100 pound K-Mart BMX bike. Piece by piece that cheap tank was transformed into a trick ride.

I also used to have the original Red Line handle bars with the V-support and the original, matching white Pro-Line forks on the bike but I broke them both. Come to think of it, I used to break lots of bike components and now I'm good at breaking cars. :o

I found this picture online. Check out the duct tape on the visors. I remember when they would give you a paper plate if you didn't have a number plate.

I used to race BMX back in the early to mid 80s. I had a Diamondback and what they called an ELF (extra light frame). The ELF had the bullseye cranks (lightest made), hutch hubs, ELF bars, UNI seat (ouch) etc. If I remember correctly it was around 17 lbs in race trim. I always wanted a Hutch Trickstar, but those things were way out of the price range of a 14 year old kid. I had to pay for all my parts, so I had to buy everything one piece at a time. I converted the DB to trick and used the ELF for racing. I still have both bikes and can bust a trick or two 20 some years later. I can still ride a wheelie for miles if you give me a road that has about a 5* incline. I'm only 5'7" so a 20" bike still fits me pretty good.

Speaking of Hutch and Trickstars, I heard Mike "Hollywood" Miranda is the manager of the cycling department at REI here by my work.

Have any of you BMXers checked out Vintage BMX? I like to go to the BMX museum link and look at the bikes and people's massive collections.

Skater here. Those boards bring back memories. Use to own several Powell Peralta, Vision and HStreet. Those videos listed brings back memories. I'm going to see if I can dig up some of the VHS. You guys remember wearing the VSW Vision Street Wear shoes with the ollie (forgot spelling) pads? Or how about Airwalks etc. etc.

oh yeah i loved my airwalk prototypes with the lace savers

Good ol' days..

Wow, this thread is interesting... Me and my bro were more children of the late 80's early 90's but both of us were into the BMX stuff... Went thru several bikes.. My bro had a Diamondback and I had a Redline.. My last bike which eventually ended up rotting in our shed was a badass MCS with a custom lightweight crank and some trick handle bars... I remember my dad paid $575 for this bike from the local BMX bicycle shop (Frenchies in Margate)...

Did any of you guys ever build your own ramps to try and launch over a driveway?? Me and my bro did that stuff and we both got the scars to prove it:eek: :D Now I'm way too big for anything other than a mountain bike and the heat bothers me too much to actually ride the damn thing:(

We used to build our own "tracks" in the middle of the woods in the area. I remember one that when you entered the woods you hit a pair of berms that took you right into a jump over a ditch. As all of us in our small group were able to make it across the ditch we would continue to make the ditch wider. Imagine the looks on people's faces as they were in the air and just noticing the ditch being wider...

My first bike was a Murray from Kiddie City. I broke the frame on it riding in the street and using driveways as jumps. Then I had a Redline, which was stolen. Finally a Profile frame and fork, that I custom built back in the day. I had over $1k in the bike back then!! I sold it at age 16 to buy my first car. Most my friends had Elf's, Cyclecraft's, and Redline's.

Yeah we also had a wooded area down here on this one empty lot that was made into a little BMX dirt track with jumps.. I can remember us modifying it the one time where somebody ended up getting an old dryer machine that was used to build up this one jump! It ended up getting shut down when the one kid got seriously injured because he did some crazy stuff and landed on his head:eek:

My biggest problem was bending rims from landing too hard.. I can remember the one time where I launched off these stairs at this building complex and both wheels were done.. Sometimes when I think of this stuff it amazes me that we weren't seriously hurt (never wore a helmet):confused:

Thread is getting way off topic here, now let's talk skateboarding!. ;)
