Will A 15x10 Weld Wheel With 4.5 Backspacing Work On 86/87 Gn Cars Without Notching Of Frame Or Rubbing Issues?will They Fit Nicely Inside The Wheel Weld Without Sticking Out.i Don`t Mind Having To Roll The Lips.would Like To Have Feedback And Pics Of If Possible.

You might have more luck in the brakes/suspension/tires & wheels forum.

FWIW I think you will find that most people say the 4-1/2" BS on the 15x10 is what you want.... but as far as hitting.... it depends on the size of the tires you buy... 26x10's will probably clear fine... but 28x10.5's are tight at best and might require some modifications.....

Good luck in your quest....

I am in a similar boat... I am thinking about 15x10's with 4-1/2" BS for a 275/50/15 MT ET Drag Radial..... but I also don't know if it is going to clear w/o mods.

Yup, I have a 15x10 Pro-Star on mine with a 295/50-15 BFG tire. If you need some pics let me know and I will go out and take some. Happy holidays.

15x10 with a 4.5bs and you need the aluminum drums along with a tight suspension to keep them from rubbing. I did poly bushings and boxed lowers and it really helped out on turns. You will want to roll the lip unless you get air shocks and jack it up high enough, but that will look silly IMO.

I had 15x10s on my old GN. They fit fine with 26" tires, but 28s did not fit with out jacking the back end up Joe Dirt style. They rubbed real bad on both sides. My frame is notched on my T and I run 15x10s with 275/60s and 5"BS and it fits perfect IMO. Heres a picture.

In my experience, 15x10s do not fit on an un notched car with taller than stock tires. I also don't like to jack the back end of a car up with cargo springs and air bags. I have standard height springs in the back with air bags for traction, not tire clearence. I leave the bags empty 99% of the time. What works for me may not work for everyone else.

it's tricky.......check the section width of the tire you want to use and use that as a starting point...good luck

Notching

Is anyone concerned about frame notching hurting overall chassis stability? I'm thinking if you need a 10" tire it's not because you are stock? It seems the notching is pretty common, there's even a link on gnttype on what it looks like.

Thanks,

EW

Seems like there was a recent thread on this..... someone actually buckled their quarter panel on launch.... and it was on a notched car..... I'm sure it is possible to notch a frame w/o loosing the cross sectional area... necessary for same strength or stronger than stock....

With that said.... IMHO someone with a structural... and welding background needs to do the calculations to make it equally strong or stronger.

Just my 0.02....

Nah, my car aint that fast. :D

They fit fine with 28x10.5 slicks or 275/60/15. these tires are about the same size.

when you go to 295/65/15 or 29.5x10.5 slicks which are 30" tall they tub on the rear inside corner. you can just heat the frame up with a torch and persuade a little clearance with a sledge to get them to fit. you must have alum drums to do this and even then it is tight everywhere.

I had the 29.5x10.5 slicks on in the GM high tech photo shoot that my car was in. they are a little big and i actually prefer the look of the 28x10.5s but the 295/65/15 M/T drag radials look boss.

really enjoyed the article on your ride Jason! good job!
speaking of gmhi-tech, the latest mag. jan. 2006, has a follow up on cotten's mod's for a 10sec. tr and is showing how to properly notch the frame, If anyone might be interested. :)

Im gonna be putting a set of 9" weld pro star XPs on with 4.25" backspacing this weekend with 275 x 60 x15 MT Drag Radials- if everything works out , i ll send you some photos.

how is this. the car is on jack stands in the front so it is kinda hard to see how it sits normally but can kinda see.

these are 295/65/15 MT drag radials
