I had an AWD SS before I bought my Cherokee. It's a pretty cool ride. There's a lot of room in it for a mid-size SUV. Overall, I liked the entire vehicle.

I would highly advise a programmer or tune to do away with as much of the torque management as possible. It KILLS the off-the-line performance big time. I'm not sure what RWD SS's run. But my AWD went 14.2s @ 95 in the 1/4n bone stock form. Not too shabby for a brick of a vehicle.

If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask. I'll answer anything I can.

I have a RWD SS, love it. Bone stock with 3K miles it went 13.90 @101.

mine is an 2008 LT..not an ss...27000 miles i put on it in 1 year and the ONLY problem so far was the front bowtie paint delaminated...i love this truck..
hauls ass and gets about 20mpg...just my 2 cents...

I have an 06 rwd and love it.

Thanks for the info, I sold my escalade last week & wanted to get another " family " car .

I went for a ride in AWD one last year. Otto was working on it. It had a different converter and some sort of tuner program and maybe something else but pretty much stock and that thing went like a raped ape from a roll at like 40 mph!

rode in a friends AWD a while back, nice cars...150 shot, convertor, exhaust, programmed and it would move, mid 12's all day

I bought one in Nov. I love it, dare I say, a little more than the GN right now?

It's my DD, so I don't plan on modding it very much. More than enough power for everyday driving.

Check out www.tbssowners.com for any info you may need.

I have a 2008 AWD with 3SS and its a great truck. Plenty of power and room! I drove the 2WD version before I purchased this one and it was a mess in the rain!

There is also a mesg board for the trucks here: TBSSOWNERS.com Forums

I am wanting one as well, what is the fuel consumption like? I know of guys in SS camaros that get into the 22-23 mpg range, and the trail blazers supposedly get mid teens. What is the deal?!
Also, is it AWD, or 4wd? (Able to be turned off into 2wd)

It is AWD that you cannot disable. On the highway I was getting about 17MPG and around town 13-14MPG. For an SUV the trucks really get up and go! I have always had Lightnings and my biggest issue with them is that they were pickups and 2WD....The TBSS takes care of all this things I didn't like about the Lightning.

well I'm looking into picking up a 06 rwd today. already have a list made out.

fast intake , longtubes, cold air , & a nice cam..

Don't forget the tune. That makes a huge difference from what I hear. Mine is all stock.

The Difference is the trim package. For 2006 they used LS or LT for different trim levels. For 2007-2008 the 1SS is entry level. The 3SS has more options to it. For 2009 only the 3SS is available.

Added weight of the SUV plus different gearing would be factors if I had to guess.

I was getting around the same mileage with mine, too. It's kinda funny. I hear people say the Jeep supposedly gets much worse mileage than the SS. But I am pulling very close to the same mileage out of it, too.

My GN has taught me a lesson. With the SS, I'm keeping it stock...well I do have a CAI on it only because it was given to me as a gift. Besides, it's the family wagon. My wife drives it daily with the kids in the car seats in the back watching DVDs on the RSE player. It's fast enough right now for it's purpose.

Ss
