Anybody know anything about VW Golf IIs?

I need to know if anyone knows how to 'prevent' theft from these cars. That is what I have here, and someone has now tried TWICE to steal my stereo out of this car. Both times were in different places, but they've happened within 4 months of each other. I have some very choice words for these skums, but I think it would just be smart to make it more difficult for them.

Are these cars easy to break into?? Must be if the morons around here can do it. It looks like they are using a screwdriver on the drivers side door handle between the seals.

If anybody has an info, please let me know. I don't want to get an alarm, because the alarm will be worth more then the car.

Yes they are easy to break into. Some catalogs sell little plates that you bolt the handle over, but if they wanna break in......

You said an alarm is worth more than the car, so why bother having a stereo worth stealing?

If you're really anal about good tunes, put a stocker in the dash, and a changer with amp in a hidden location with a remote you can tuck away.

what you need is called armour door plates

go pick up a copy of vw/audi car or vw sport(magazines) and look for a company called C&R Enterprises, they are in England, you can mail order them no sweat. i was a mail order rep at a vw place here in the states(Rapid Parts) for about 4 years. btw, the euro a2 cars(golf/jetta) is highly desireable in parts here in the usa. being in de, you could make a mint selling used euro stuff on vwvortex.com

Thanks everyone for your replies. I'll look into that company in England and order that plate. That's exactly what I was thinking, but didn't know if such a thing existed.

ScottB, yes you're right... if they want it bad enough they will get it. They don't make armored plates for windows too. I'm not so worried about the car itself. Yes, an alarm WOULD be worth more then the car. The radio itself is a Pioneer Circa 1996, in dash CD player. So it's not REALLY that valuable either, but I'm just getting sick of these skum trying to take it. Both times they tried I've been lucky. Both times they broke the face plate off so they gave up. The radio itself was still in the dash. The first time I found the face plate in some nearby bushes. The second time it was laying on the floor of the car. It's not a removable faceplate so I had to fix the wires going to it. Talk about some small soldering.

BlackBandit, sorry, guns are illegal here. And strictly controlled. Trust me.. that was my FIRST thought. And I feel sorry for the first bastard I catch stealing a radio... mine or someone elses.

A piece of plywood in the seat with some 8 penny nails and a cheap seat cover over it would probably stop it. You just got to remember to take it out yourself.
