Anyone ever fabricate their own maf pipe?

The thin wall pvc tubing won't hold up to the heat at the turbo connection...It will collapse and deform from the heat and the clamping on it from the clamps...Don't ask how I know 
But the thick wall pvc section that I put in it's place next to the turbo seems to be holding up okay...

I went the way of a 2001 Honda APC Intake, (Rice)! With a Little modifying it fits and works great!!! Do a search on here for 2001 Accord and a couple of posts will show up. Looks great!!!
I also used PVC pipe. I made it a cold air kit though and its been working fine since I installed it. I need to paint it black though. 
Went to Home depot and got two 3" rubber joints (black rubber), 10 feet of PVC (had to buy ten), One 90deg Joint (for bend at turbo, black rubber), one 90 bend (PVC fits behind headlight) and cut it all to fit. I used about two feet of PVC pipe total but it works well and the rubber joints fit my LS1 MAF perfectly.

Heres what you do, go buy the APC honda accord intake pipe and filter kit, comes with everything you need, for around 67 bucks, and its nice thin polished aluminum. cut the ends at slightly different angles and it fits in there perfectly, i was the one who first tried this, i hope it catches on, because its much cheaper than the 70 dollar intake pipes sold alone by vendors, and it looks twice as good IMO. i for some reason, love to see lots of bends and shiny pipes. check it out at my website, also shows some pics of my intercooler pipes courtesy of JC whitney, lol. Mike, im glad to see someone went the different route and tried my way out, do you have any pictures of yours?

PS> that price includes clamps, a 3 inch to 2.5 inch blue rubber connection that you can stretch to make 3 inch to 3 inch(my turbo connection, and a nice 6 inch cone air filter with a inverted cone in the end. hard to beat for the price.

Jacob, The setup works and look great!! Very pleased. I ended up junking the filter that it came with since I already have a K&N. A friend of mine works at a parts warehouse and found another pipe exactly the same with out the filter for $70.00 Canadian, Man you guys down south can sure do this uprgrade on the cheap!!! Thanks again Jacob!
How about $20-25 for a mandrel bent 4" MAF pipe? I used semi exhaust, cut in the middle of the bend, rotated and welded it for an "S" shape. I had this one chromed but of course that's not necessary.

Bishir, you can get it at most local autoparts chains. like, autozone has em i think, so does advance(where i bought mine). works great, its 3 inch diameter mandrel bent, looks cool.

Jacob, I am still waiting for a buddy to send me the pics via email so I can post. I was a little leary of putting a ricer part on my car, but well worth it!!! Thanks for the tips, Mike
ok cool, just shoot me a email when you get a chance to send em. i wouldnt classify it as a ricer part, although the brand is the leader in the tacky import "ricer" parts sales. that includes headrest springs, clear tailights, strobe lights for your tires, radioactive emblems, non functional hood pins, big blue seatbelt pads, etc. that stuff deserves the "rice" name. things like nicely polished aluminum mandrel bent pipes dont quite fit in that category in my opinion.
pvc, hvac ducting, multiple mandrell bends welded together... this is all pretty cheap stuff, but for a GN, pretty damn tacky for a car proclaimed to "Go Fast With Class".
if you have to be so cheap to put pvc-anything on your car, just save your pennies and wait until you can afford a pre-made mandrell bent MAF pipe from any of the turbo buick vendors, or just buy a used one off the board.
i'll be selling my old 3" kenne bell steel maf pipe. if you're interested just make me a offer.. and no, i won't take $4 lol

The PVC and HVAC may be pushing it..although I had a cold air system made of black painted PVC that looked fine. Nicely welded mandrel bends can look great...or were you too lazy to click on the link?
IMO the best part of "Going Fast With Class" is the non-judgmental nature of the Buick folks. I had a Vette at one point and the "matching hose clamp" people ruin most of the Vette clubs.>>> Dan,
FWIW for years I ran a real real cheap (which appeals to alot of TR owners) MAF pipe made from 4" home depot hvac duct and it probably cost all of 3 bucks, hey maybe a group purchase can be arranged.
Point being I didnt think it was tacky, it worked as the car ran 10's all day long and point being while you are going down the track no one sees it anyway and when people would say where'd ya get that from I said Home Depot.
I also like your advice on telling folks to save their pennies <chuckle>.
