Anyone have a Battery Tender

So short version of a long story. I went off for to San Diego and left the Radar Detector plugged in in the truck. Battery was stone dead. I thought my battery tender would bring it back nice and slow but later in the night it was dead too. No Lights at all hen you plug it in.


Do these things have a fuse in the box.

Not an expert by any means but sell and have sold various battery maintainers over the years.

All the ones I am familar with are designed to maintain a battery that is already at the proper volts....they do not bring back a dead battery like a bigger unit quick charge one would do providing your battery can be brought back. I would try the maintainer on a good battery to see if it functions that fails I would toss it....they are cheap enough to replace....

Point being if something is wrong you don;t want your face anywhere near the battery.....

I use an ATD 37460 Battery Charger/Starter. It has an automatic feature with overload protection. Put it on 12v 2a.

My battery is in the trunk, so I have two lugs on the firewall where I hook the charger to.

If I'm gone for more than 5 days, I just disconnect the battery. I don't trust anything.

Well turns out Deltran will fix it under warranty so we're good. The Optima Redtop is no longer in the truck, replaced with a new Interstate.

Use a big battery charger for an hour then use the battery tender. The battery tender can not bring a dead battery to full charge. There has to be some juice in the battery for the tender to work.
