I am getting ready to install a LC2 into my 67 Firebird and I bought a complete pull out motor that has a factory engine wiring harness on it and I want to convert it over to a stand alone harness for my Firebird. Anyone have any tips they would like to pass along on mods that made to thier harness that might help? Thanks

Steve

go thru it and take out anything that you don't need to allow the engine to run and simplify the routing of the wires that you do keep.
clearly mark which wires you need to hook up- battery, ignition, grounds, etc.

Simplify the grounds and solder your splices then use shrink tube over them. I cut the wires I didn't need a few inches from ecm plug and taped them up.

This is what I am going to have to do when I get my Vega going. I am using as much as possible to use the blade fuse box and all instead of the barrel fuse setup. Lots of work to do but will be well worth it when done. :)

I looked into the Casper's harness and I am sure it is nice but at almost $1k I think it is little pricey for what I need. I have the GM pins and crimping tools so I could could completly replace every wire in the harness and just reuse the connectors and save almost enough money for one of the newer billet turbos!

You can also buy a stand alone harness from FAST and you make the terminations for the sensors yourself. The FAST harness has the ECU end terminated.

I have been tempted to go with a Classic FAST and stand alone harness instead of going with a stock ECM type of set up. I can get a used Classic FAST for about same money by the time I get the translator, MAF, Power logger and other related parts for the stock ECM. My only concern is that with a stock ECM parts are readily available but if I have a problem with a Classic FAST getting it repaired might become an issue since it is an older system and they are no longer making it.

I tried making a 20 yr old harness into a stand alone harness to use with my XFI. I had a Casper adapter box also. I broke down and bought a Capser harness made to my specs, couldn't be happier.

Can't you just make a hole in the cars firewall for the C100 big connector and put the fuse box on the inside?

And a hole/grommett on the other side for the ECM stuff?

Steve,

You only need a few wires to do this. Take a look at these 2 diagrams:

There are 2 "ends" to the harness, the big end (C-100) has wiring for fused power going out to the harness and inputs for gauges coming back into the cockpit. The smaller end (C-434) shows the unnecessary stuff stripped out. Of all these, you prolly only "need" the PNK/BLK wires and the PPL starter to run.
