Just wondering. I think the days of $700 and $9 an ounce is gone for a while.

Anyway, I was just wondering if any of you were messing around with this stuff because stocks are hurting so bad.

I have a deal with a bunch of jewelers and coin dealers in the area buyiing their old gold. Been doing it for years. Can't currently buy gold coins without paying a BIG premium, but scrap gold I can buy UNDER it's melt value!

Besides, lots of times, jewelers NEED quick cash and will buy NEW jewelry for the same price! Just did this with one local jeweler and my daughter made us 50% over the gold, reselling all the earrings and chains to her friends! :)

Cool. Nice to see someone here in this nitch market. I have been looking into buying junk silver but dont want to pay ebay prices. The coin shops here try to rob everyone. What can I do?

I was looking to buy silver also, I wouldnt pay over its $9 dollar value. Ebay is a joke, paying shipping too. Watch, everyone is pitching gold, that will skyrocket, and then crash next.
Where can I get silver though? I thinking about buying gold off craigslist, but I will proably get ripped off.

Local auctions are the place to buy gold and silver, unfortunately many good antiques are getting melted down these days. :frown:

Obviously your competition there will be varying amounts of other wholesalers and perhaps a few antique jewerly collectors and jewelry retailers.

I collect other things at auction, don't know much about gold, other than a place in manhattan seems to have the best price to sell it to.

Just my .02 in copper. :p

I used to go to the outdoor flea markets, buy a spot and set up a BUYING stand! That was 30 years ago when you didn't have to have a license to buy here on L.I. and people were lined up to sell me stuff! Last week went to the local drug store and a guy was there with a card table buying gold and silver, and had people selling him stuff. Might want to try that!

A friend just got a one ounce Maple Leaf 99.9999% and paid about market rate for an ounce of gold.

I purchased a bunch of $50 gold american eagles through live.com using BIN on ebay, and received $200 cash back on each one. I then sold half of them back on ebay full price. That works for me!

I am a little skeptical about that live.com stuff. Free money is too good to be true. there is no way someone is willing to purchase nothing.....I think they are tracking it that way, so I would be paying capitol gains if I were you. You have definatly left a paper trail.

I do pay capital gains.

The only thing I'm skeptical about is if MS really got a good ROI on this promotion.

I dont know. I am skeptical about everything now:redface:

Looks like dollar rally is on again. Short lived in MHO.

I agree, it'll be just as volatile as everything else. None of it follows any logic! Luckily I have a lonnnnnng time until retirement!

Don't know if you guys were around in "79-"80 when the Hunt Brothers "tried" to corner the silver market . My dad got caught up in it and bought a chit load of silver bars . I remember helping him unload it out from the trunk of his car when I was a teenager . Then the market crashed and the bars that were "laying" around the house dissapeared real quick :D . I think he was embarrassed by the whole thing . My mom recently about a year ago found a stash of silver bars hidden behind the wall unit in the living room . :D LOL and asked me what she should do with them , seeing most likely my dad has forgotten where he hid them all in the house . I said to just leave them and maybe they will be worth something for her Grandkids . :D LOL . what is silver trading at now ???

History shows gold stays high when the real estate market is down. The real estate market will be down for a long time. Gold will be worth something when the dollar is worth nothing.

That goes for all precious metals. The dollar is going to fall to record lows here soon(I know it already has) but even more. And when hyper inflation sets in from the Fed printing money like no tomorrow, the precious metals will sore. Whith this dollar rally, it would be a good time to get in.

my dad paid alot more than that . I guess they'll stay behind the wall unit . :D

What did he pay then?
