Every time I go to the track or go to some car meet I run into people that make up these elaborate stories. They will talk about how their bone stock 91 Camaro runs 11s. They will talk about how they had a 5.0 mustang that you had to run to 10,000 rpms to run the best.. my favorite was two guys that claimed they were previously in the Marine Corps (this was back when I was in) and had the most full of sh** story ever.
Then there are the parts swappers... they run 11s and when you ask them how they do it on pep boys futuras they say of course they swap that out for slicks. Then you ask how they keep the 7.5" 10 bolt from exploding they claim they swap out the rear end when they go to the track (lol.. Ive had someone tell me this) etc... that one particular guy was amazing. He basically completely reworked the entire car to go to the track and then made it stock again to drive on the street.
Anyway... why is it that the automotive hobby attracts so many liars? I don't get it. I don't think I have ever met as many liars in my life as I have at car meets.
