Every time I go to the track or go to some car meet I run into people that make up these elaborate stories. They will talk about how their bone stock 91 Camaro runs 11s. They will talk about how they had a 5.0 mustang that you had to run to 10,000 rpms to run the best.. my favorite was two guys that claimed they were previously in the Marine Corps (this was back when I was in) and had the most full of sh** story ever.

Then there are the parts swappers... they run 11s and when you ask them how they do it on pep boys futuras they say of course they swap that out for slicks. Then you ask how they keep the 7.5" 10 bolt from exploding they claim they swap out the rear end when they go to the track (lol.. Ive had someone tell me this) etc... that one particular guy was amazing. He basically completely reworked the entire car to go to the track and then made it stock again to drive on the street.

Anyway... why is it that the automotive hobby attracts so many liars? I don't get it. I don't think I have ever met as many liars in my life as I have at car meets.

True. Its everywhere. Usually when the subject of cars comes up in a conversation, and I tell them I have a Turbo Buick, it ALWAYS ends up, " My Brother, cousin, friend, friends brother, ex g/f's dad, etc..use to have one and it was the baddest around! It was a 86 or 87 with a factory twin turbo " I just smile and say " oh really?? yeah they are some mean rides "

I'd say 50% want to see how much BS they can spew before you catch on; the other 50% are wannabees looking for acceptance.

I run 9's with BF radial T/A's. I of course have to plan it during the way-side of a hurricane at the top of a hill and a running start of 100 mph. In regular weather it runs 12.1's.

I use a Top Fuel ECM with FAST transmission programer.
My wife cheats on me with John Force, thats how I got the ECM.

Thats funny... Justst the otherx day I was talking to a sanitation man and he told me how if you just add a chip on a GN theyre 1000 percent faster... The worse is when people try and tel me about GNS... Ohhh they were supercharged... No they werent.. I own one theyre turboed.. No you got the Turboed one but the SC ones are the best ones to get... ohhh yea ya right.... But there are some weirdos ot there that migh be true.. Friend of mine has a 72 Camaro running low 10s on SBC all motor.. If you would hear him talk you wouldnt believe till you saw his car.. Its very hard to accept or disprove but timeslips/ video does help...

I love when I tell someone that I have a Grand National and they ask "oh what color is it?". Happened just last night on the phone haha.

Just like people always overestimate how long a snake is (that thing was 8 feet long!!! and I catch it and it measures 42 inches) people do the same with 1/4 times "yeah those ran 9s didn't they?" yeah in the 1/8th maybe.

I have had people accuse me of trying to clone a Grand National and not doing it right. I always have to tell them I do not have a GN but a Turbo T. Basically a GN that you could get in differant colors. Some people still don't believe me.

Tr I.q.

80% of the people who I meet that actually know what a TR is, claim to know far more that I do about these cars.... and I'm on my 4th TR, and have been tinkering since 1992, I guess I just have not paid good enough attention:D

BIG EGO. Or the guy who's car can go this fast cause a similar car has a similar setup....lol.

Back when I had my 9c1 caprice everyone's brother was a cop. Special chip, special tires, special brakes, special motor etc. Apparently cop cars were way faster than grandmas caprice classic. They could even out run a modded camaro:rolleyes: I kinda miss my cop car:(

i have to try to explain that i didnt put in a GN drive train but they came with them. it has been hard since i just put the engine in and when people think that i swapped out the engine and im like no i just rebuilt the one that was in there.

About 8 years ago, when my bros 85 T-type was hotair, a couple guys were looking under the hood at the track. I over heard them talking to each other,They said that the T-types have the turbo in the back and GNs have it in the front.

I don't have enough fingers to count how many people I've talked to who have a cousin/uncle/brother with a 10 second GN, a twin turbo GN, a V8 GN, etc etc etc.

So many times people look at my car "yeah yours is nice but you should see the one my uncle has!"

And you can all guess how many of these GNs I've ever seen in person.

If I only had a dollar for each time I've heard "I didn't know those Grand Nationals came in white!".

I love the "Oh yours only has a V-6, the GNX has a V-8 and dual turbos." and they have always seen one or know someone who has them. Some people believe they still are the fastest production car of all time....I just agree! With guys like that I always try to add to their story. "That twin turbo V8 turns 11s stock from the showroom floor."
