Anyone running 10's or know anyone going 10's with a TE-61?

I don't see this turbo getting much mention here. Has me second guessing whether it will go into the 10's without having to run 32 PSI. The only 61 turbo car I know around here is Bob Armstrong. He is always busy at the track so I never get a chance to talk about what he has as for combo. I have seen him go 10.7-10.8 with it but I think he has a Stage 1, ESP intercooler, 55's and I have no idea what convertor or heads. The last time I talked with him at the track he had just went 10.90@125 MPH and he said that was at 20 PSI. Anyone else getting it done with a 61?

Marty Green who had his '87 Limited featured in GMHTP ran 10.87 @125mph (1.47 60' time) with a TA-61 turbo and this car had mild ported stock heads, 206/206 Billet hyd. roller cam, 55's, MJ 17 row stretch IC, a 3800 stall Vigilante LU converter, Red's double pumper, etc. and this was with 33lbs of boost with Red's 106 low timing chip.... I'm sure you know about Tim Stockwell and how he ran high 10's with a TA-61 turbo with 30+lbs of boost.... Maybe you will be able to run high 10's with less boost because unlike Marty and Tim you have a CAS V2 Front Mount IC and some ported stock heads that have some very nice flow #'s.... also with the MaxEffort chip you can run some higher timing if you don't want to run over 30lbs of boost....
HTH and good luck on running in the 10's :)

Both me and David Stinson went 10s years ago with 61s at low boost by todays standards.
See ya, Kip

Third pass with new combination, I ran 11.35 @121 w/1.67 60ft. This was @21# boost. I didn't feel like pushing it too much running 50s and a single hotwired Walbro 307. My bottom end is also stock. I don't think it would take an outrageous amount of boost with enough fuel to get it into the 10s ... but I guess until you're there, who knows?

Paul.

You got some pretty serious hardware there! Really good and on a D-5 at 21 PSI. I feel pretty good now. Need more of the 61 people to come out!!

My friend Chuck Strader has gone several 10.90s @ 122 in his grey T-Type with a TA61. 1.53-55 short times, D5 converter (although it really needs some stall), 009s, stretch intercooler, home ported heads.

My car has the same combo and has gone 11.20s @121.5. These runs are with ~21-22 psi. I'm hoping for 10s with more boost and fresh motor (mine is in the machine shop right now).

Ken,

Need any pictures of anything before I unload them? I have 61 pics and Siemen's 83 pics.

Sure!

I think we have quite a few pics of the TE61, but if you have a TA61, those will work well.

I've got mine off the car too, so I should just get off my butt and take some pics! :)

The 83# Siemens would be a great addition to the injector guide!

Intercooler: Yes, Bob is running a 61 in his street car (Gray '87 Turbo T). Don't quote me on this, but I believe he's gone a 10.59 with it. Lately, he's dialed the boost back a little (20#?) and is running 10.90's. He's running DFI & 55's, Stage 1 block, Iron heads, Precision frt mount, Deltrans 200R4 trans & AC 9" convertor. It easliy passed the Delaware emissions test last year, even after sitting for about two years.

VERY nice & CLEAN car!

Wow! I guess I am real similar to him. It must be the same setup/motor he has been running for a long while. I know he went 10.47 with that same setup a few years back. I was there when he did it in the pits(stock block was pulled and had a cracked cap). I think he is taking it easy because the motor need freshened. When he was in the pits it was smoking more than normal out the breathers. He said it was old and tired. I think I can rest easy now.

When he cracked the cap, it was with a stock block and it was several years ago. I've raced with him several times this season and to the best of my knowledge, there's nothing wrong with the current setup he has and it's running fine.

Good luck with your buildup!

A friend of mine just went 7.04 @98 mph in the 1/8th yesterday which is close to a high 10 in the 1/4. I think he was running about 27 PSI . We may be going to 1/4 mile track Sun so I will update.
