was looking at some boyd coddington rims to put on my 87 gn they come pretty standard in 8" and 10" but a 9" is custom order . so i was wondering if anyone has had any luck with 10 in . rims on the back and what kind of backspace and tire size if so.

thanks for any help here guys.

I have a friend runnin 17x10s in the back with 285/40s. I believe his backspacing is 5" but its best to measure your own car as some sit crooked (mine) and figure out what your maximum is gonna be. But it is doable and he has no frame or fender modifications.

Hum

Not sure why someone would put 5" of B.S. on a 17"wheel when 5" of B.S. will not work on a 15" wheel without frame messaging.. Everyone knows that a 15x10 is tight with even 4.5 B.S. An in some cases it works!! Not saying a 17" with 5" wil not work , just don't understand logically how it could.. By the way I am going with a 20" TT II in 20x10 with 4.5B.S on R an 20x8 with 3.5 on front!!

you will have to let me know how that works out with the 10" rears and post some pics with the 20's

I'm running Simmons 18 x 10's (11" overall width) out back. I'll take off the wheels and give you an exact backspacing.

We want pics!

17x9.5 Budniks here. I am running a 315/35/17 Nitto DR on them. I had one of the other guys on here with a simular size setup and he is using 4 3/4 BS. I went with 4 7/8 BS (running aluminum drums) and they fit real good. The car is lowered about 1.5 " or so in the back and there is only about 1/2 gap between the frame and the tire but so far no rubbing.

RUQWKNF27 -it seems that as you go up in diameter on rim sizes the sectional width of the tire ( sidewall to sidewall) changes thereby letting you run deeper backspacing without rubbing or hitting the frame, its not so much the backspacing as it is the sectional width of the tire on the rim. When a tire hits or rubs its not the rim that hits , its usually the sidewall of the tire.

Soon as the weather clears up I will get some pics. Over the weekend I got a little rubbing on the outside when I launched it. Was hitting on the top inside wheel well trim. I trimed about 1/2+ of the top inside of the trim and wheel well. Still a little close but should be OK. We will soon know when I head out to the track. If I would have gone with 4.5BS I would be rubbing HARD and would have to run some bags or something. I pulled both wheels off and checked to see if there was any rubbing on the inside edge and there was none on either side. To be honest I spent allot of time investigating and do not think with my setup any other BS -/+ would have worked well. I think I made a great choice. Course thats just my opinion. ;)
