Yeah I know and I am afraid of that too but this guy is highly reccomended and builds alot of auto trannies for dragsters (1700+ hp) and they hold up spectacular. Somebody in the tranny forum said to get a hold of Brian H-something but when I posted again for contact info no one responded. His link on the home page just goes right back to the home page so thats no help either. Any info for me?

Brian Hofer ......... his email address is hipsibri@cs.com

Ok so this is gonna sound really bad but what does detonation look like on a spark plug?

this post kinda sounds like my car without the tranny problems. i have dumped alot of money in my motor and i can find this knock issue for the life of me. sometimes it knocks sometimes it doesnt.

Andrew, what are your o2 counts when its knocking?? Your trans does sound shot but you could be having two problems knock and a shot tranny... If your o2s are in the 790-800s then you are getting a false knock.. Make sure that knock is false b4 you nd a headgasket and a tranny....

87TIGN - just to make sure, have u asked ur builder if he torqued the knock sensor? if he overtightened it then it would become super sensitive and pick things up that its not supposed to.

Boost231 - i know ive asked u before, but u run alky correct? i dont know if this is the sorta issue ur having or not but ive noticed at the track i cannot effectively hot lap the car because the alky becomes heat soaked and loses some of its effectiveness! just a thought:)

If you read all these posts, you're going to get overwhelmed and forget the original course of action you should take. Just do the things I mentioned, and as for the TV cable....
Forget the factory adjustment procedure as described on gnttype.org.
There are too many variables that will affect the outcome.
Just adjust it (always with the motor turned off) to the point your tranny shifts when you want it to. Too tight and it'll wind up before shifting and then blow the control arm bushings out from under the car on each shift....or too soft and the clutches will slip too much, (causing alot of wear and heat) and it'll shift way too early. Adjust it to where it feels normal, yet still firm on each shift. If at WOT, it doesnt upshift when it's supposed to, take it to a tranny shop..one that will listen to you and wont charge you $600 to spend 3 seconds adjusting the TV cable, and then tells you he rebuilt the tranny.

well its alittle more involved then that.

another thing to check which I know sounds funny but I just experienced it myself is replace your fuel filter, mine had not been on the car for much more than 1000 miles and I was getting some knock under boost, changed the filter and no more knock!!!! It must have been choking down on fuel under boost and leaned it out. just my o2

Lots of good comments here, first don't worry, that's definitely false knock. I highly doubt that's real knock at 5psi with the settings you mentioned.

If you have stock engine and tranny mounts you are going to get some false knock on shifts, especially if it's over revving to 6k, a lot of engine and tranny movement at that shift point. I sometimes get a tad of shift knock even with new mounts.

Take Vaders recommendations first, then keep on your low boost break in and if things still stink get that tranny worked on. If you drop it off make sure the boost is low as the shop will have to drive the car eventually at WOT.

Since you are in CO I would send it to Len in Nevada, he has 200's in the 9's and is a good contact to have since you are somewhat close by. You can always pay a board member to pull it and install it if needed.

Hey Andrew! how are you? Haven't talked to you in a while. I know we both were rebuilding our motors at the same time. Sorry to hear your having a few problems. I as well as a friend of mine both had our Transmision's rebuilt by Detroit Transmissions, off of I-70 & Sheridan. He has built our transmissions before and he will only build them one way, the way he has done them that works. What that is, I don't know, but I can tell you we both love the firm shift they have and I have never had a doubt in my mind that this guy didn't build it right. Whatever you do, get yourself a tranny cooler, and let me know if I can help.
