Im looking at renting out a Dyno shop for the whole day (Saturday or Sunday) so I could get the wife's car on the Dyno and make a few pulls. Anyone interested? It will be like $150 to have unlimited pulls (if we get more people it will be cheaper per person) but I dont want to rent the dyno for the whole day and only make 3-5 pulls. So if someone wants to dyno their car let me know!

Depending on how soon you are planning it I may be interested. I will not really be ready for a month or two, but this may give me a reason to hurry up. ;)

I could wait a month, July 10th would be awesome if you could make it by then. Let me know!

I'm going to keep my eye on this thread. I'd love to dyno my POS but can't commit to anything without a date. My interest is peaked though because I would LOVE to get some dyno numbers!

I'd be interested as well and will keep an eye on this thread to see how it progresses.

The date is set. We will Dyno this Saturday June 26th in San Diego area. So far we have two cars going. Maximum 4 cars so if your interested please let me know soon!

Cars signed up:
1. 1998 Grand Prix GTP 3.8L S/C'ed V6- Whipple S/C w/ 24 psi boost, built everything (trans, engine, etc, etc). Estimating over 500 FWHP

2. 2006 Mercedes Benz S65 Bi-Turbo V12- All Stock 605HP/738TQ from the factory so I'm guessing maybe around 500 RWHP and about 615RWTQ. I know MB is conservative about their HP/TQ numbers so we might see a little more.

Everyone is invited to come and watch. Price is $250 to rent the dyno all day so if we have 3 cars it would be about $85/ each (unlimited pulls) and if we have four cars it would be about $65/ each (unlimited pulls). Let me know if your interested ASAP because I have the same offer going in 2 other Forums. Thanks!

To soon for me. I'll be just back into town so the car won't be ready but might be able to swing by. Where iare you doing it at?

Well I knew Mercedes was conservative about their numbers but this was a little surprising. RWHP ended up being 568.69 and RWTQ was at a nice 624.62.:eek::D:D After doing a little research , I found that with a good set of tires we should be in the 11.7-11.8 range in the 1/4. With a ECM tune, Trans CM Tune, and some 110 octane fuel, we should be right at 11-11.2 in the 1/4..... okay, so who's the one that wanted to race me in their GN again?

This sounds like a challenge to the CHICKEN, Hey Rooster someone is calling out your nameeee? where are you!!!!!!:D

What type of dyno, Victor, & what type of correction factor was used?

06-14-2010: "Beautiful ride, Vic, I'm green with envy.
At least until it breaks something.
How many miles on it. What year is that one?"

It was a DYNO Jet and Im not sure about the correction factor. Where do you find that at?

I think the wife is gonna make a few passes stock (she has already called me out ) then she said she wants to do the tires and run me again. Hopefully I could beat on her a little before she gets the tires! Then we will do the ECM mods and run race fuel to see where we are at.

I mean yeah, its a V12 twin turbo but where else can you find a car with that much HP, room for 5 and with a **** load of options for that price? This thing is ridiculous to drive!

Well the good news Gary is this thing aint American! :biggrin:LOL So keeping it stock, or even modding it, wont break it like a Ford or Chevy. These engines are hand built and extremely durable. Even the regular non-amg cars last forever! Plus I know the parts guy (and over half the people at the dealership) so parts, labor, diagnosis, etc are cheap/free (well at least cheaper than regular prices) and Im getting an extended warranty (from UAC) that covers 99% of the stuff on the car (does not cover normal wear items like belts, hoses, brakes, tires, etc) but every time I worked on a car that had this UAC warranty, the damn thing was covered. For AMG cars the warranty runs $4200 for 2 years/24K miles but for "employees" (my price) its $2100:D . So there isnt much things on these cars that fail. But the few things that do are covered by warranty.

UAC covers the entire car no matter what! We actually had a Kleeman CLK AMG55 ( supercharged V8 from Kleeman when the CLK55 just comes with a built naturally aspirated V8) and it would always come in for diagnosing. The guy would complain the car was losing power and wasnt as fast as it used to be. So everything we did to get the power back up (ie spark plugs, wires, fuel filter, etc) UAC covered! I was amazed! So this is by far one of the best aftermarket warranty companies around. So Im not worried to much about anything going wrong with this car. But thanks for the concern! Im telling you Gary, you should have bought one too!

I'm extremely happy for you guys, Victor, but those are not for me. I prefer American made to off-shore manufacture, even when comparing the smug German cars.
Those cars do break, as evidenced by the threads and posts on MBWorld.
$4200 for a 2 year warranty. And $2100 employee pricing: Good Lord.
Besides, I prefer extremely low mileage toys as compared to moderate or high mileage "previously owned" vehicles.
And I am extremely happy with the Cad, for what it is, faults and all.
Still, Victor, I am green with envy. Tis a beautiful car. I only wish that I could afford one.

Victor. I think the correction factor was SAE, which if I remember right, is not the most generous. It should be listed on the dyno sheet you got from Jamie.

Congrats on the numbers. I knew that thing felt like a beast on that test drive.

SAE is generally the most common of the correction factors used. It is somewhat less generous that the STD correction factor. I have no doubt in my mind that car is a beast.

Well either way if its generous or not, the car made some good HP and TQ. I was impressed! The TQ curve on it is pretty flat but I didnt get on the gas till the thing hit around 3,500 rpm or the damn thing would downshift! And I couldnt just floor it or it would also downshift. Also, the air/fuel ratio was perfectly flat at around 12:1 (previous runs)until the cat got heated up. then it would just read around 14.7:1. But it was a blast dynoing it and we have a few videos (which I have no idea how to download).

Very nice.
Congrats:biggrin:
SAE is the correction factor typically used by the auto manufacturers (but not all of them).
GM started using SAE first and the rest followed when they got tired of having to explain to bummed out customers why their cars with greater advertised power specs were still so much slower than GM's that were advertised with lower power ratings.

So....when we gonna race?:D

You should know that I don't run away...
I'll race anyone who wants to race....it's all fun to me.
I aint even afraid of racing an Acura....unlike someone else I know...

When you going to get that fart can car running so we can race?

So this car is made in heaven & won't break. I'm glad my long career as an auto mechanic has reached the end. I feel so obsolete & unneeded. Who wants to buy my tools !
