Hello, helping a friend with a 2002 camry. The car will not accellerate. The throttle body makes a clicking sound when pedal is depressed.

So.. I took it apart and cleaned the contacts in it. In the mean time located a spare throttlebody from a 2003 from a local yard. The old throttle body has a part number 22030-28030 and the replacement has a part number 22030 0H010. The replacement throttlebody wouldnt even move when the pedal was depressed.

I put the old one back on.. and now it doesnt click anymore but the car in Park only revs to 2000 rpm's. Its not sticking or having any mechanical issue.

I checked the parts site for Toyota and the replacement is the new number. Superceded.

Does the throttle body after replacement need to be reprogrammed? Or whats the deal. I wish I was more Toyota literate when it comes to this.

Anyone run into this? Whats the fix?

Doesn't the new Toyota have fly-by-wire gas pedelss? Remember the recall couple years back. The pedal switch could be bad.

The scanner will show the pedal voltages. They are different but rise at the same rate. If the ecu detects a difference in rise voltages, the throttle will have idle quality and that is all. One starts out at .7v or so and the other starts out at 1.3v or so. If you graph them, they should rise equally and if not, then replace the pedal sensor.

We have to verify voltages on all the 90L pedal modifications we do. Part of the recall. The voltages HAVE to be in sync or no throttle motor actuation.

If both didnt move, wouldnt that then be indicative of a bad pedal sensor? I'll hook up my scantool and see if I can see a rise. The update rate is not very fast so if there where to be any glitches I would never know. Guess step two is replace the pedal sensor?

Done that yesterday AM. Only one reply.. basically to disconnect battery for 15 minutes then reconnect it. On another search to then turn ign key to ACC and slowly move the pedal to relearn a few times. Then restart.

I hate cars :D

Throttle bodies are ready to go the moment they come out of the package. Just need to verify voltages off the pedal sensor. If they don't rise equally, then a new pedal gets ordered. No other diagnosis for those other than that. I have used my Snap On scanner to watch pedal voltages. If you can overlay them, that is better as you can watch them side by side and compare the tracers. If you have access to an oscilliscope and can hook up two tracer leads, that would be great. Toyota dealer can verify with TechStream for you if you can take the car down there. We do that for a few people around that we know and don't charge them a thing.
