I am thinking of going hyd roller but do not want the additional noise that i hear from other cars running hyd rollers ...my flat tappet is pretty silent...by the way what causes all that noise

Roller lifters shouldnt be noisy unless they are solid roller lifters, not hydraulic. If they're hydraulic and they clatter, then there is something wrong.

roller lifters and rockers and I must strain to hear any difference in noise.

Of course some of the roller lifters have issues. After hunderds of miles I fire up the other day and hear a tap  shut down and fire up after a few hours and it is quiet - not the first time some have stuck
fired up last night and still quiet

Toss in a quart of marvel mystery oil. Drain the oil after 500 miles, fill up again with another quart of MMO. After the next 500 miles, I guarantee most of the lifter noise, if not all of it, will be gone.

are you running adjustable rockers? or the stock rockers? itll make a difference on a roller cam.

The hydraulic roller lifters used in our motors are retro-fit style. They have the bridge bar holding them together to keep the lifters from turning in the galley. The bridge bar is on a slider, and will always make a little noise. Well worth the power, not to mention the worries of losing a lobe on a flat tappet cam.

I've had 3 roller motors, and they all make some noise. This is with hydrolic lifters. Brian

Mine makes way more noise with aluminum heads, and hydro-roll-o-matic.

Those bars must be clattering, and maybe aluminum makes more noise??

I think Turbogta1 hit it right. The OEM lifters are set up with guides in the block that don't let them turn. The aftermarket "back-fit" lifters are connected together with a link, to keep them from turning. The links have to be a little loose, to keep from binding, so they make some noise. My guess would be that noise varies from one brand of lifter to another, depending on how they set up the connecting links. Maybe some cam grinder could use links made with plastic bushings, like the plastic used for some push-rod guides, and then they would be quiet.

Roller Lifters

 SOOO ...which company makes the quiteiest roller hyd lifter setup

Always buy for best quality, and performance, and let the noise fall where it may. It's the nature of the beast. Brian

If your using Scorpion rockers with aluminums, it will sound like a sewing machine. With aluminums, T&D's are a must!!!!! But like I said before, no matter what hyd. roller lifter used in our motors, there will always be some ever so slight noise. Comp cam lifters seem to be the better lifter.

There's a good chance all the hydraulic roller lifters for these motors are made by the same company and if I were to guess the noise is from improper pushrod length. When you change cams and lifters it's a good chance the pushrod length is slightly off. The vendors usually make up this difference with another off the shelf pushrod but it still may not be the perfect length since you don't have adjustable rockers.

Pretty noisy here.

Ive got the cam in my sig, but I think my Harland Sharp rockers are whats making the noise. Between that and my exhaust leak that I cant find Im ready to buy the Tand D rockers and TA performance headers and sleep better at night.

sorry - got distracted by some jerk in the political forum need to stay here!!!

Yes, I have adjustable roller rockers and my motor is quiet (loud exhaust may cover up very slight sounds) even being full roller except for the couple of times there was a tap tap tap on start up. I shut it down and wait a while and start it up again and it is quiet again - will try the MMO
