I just got my GN painted and running perfectly, so i figured id look it up just to get an idea of whats its worth. i put excellent condition with 173000 miles and it said 8500???/ thats seems a bit high for a gn with 173000, even though it has a new $3000 paint job, new trans, new motor. any thoghts??? i was thinking i could get maybe 7000 at most,...

Not trying to be a smart a**, Long story short, any car is worth whatever anyone is will to pay. The different books are just what they think the car is worth. The condition, maintainance and what extras the car has will make a big different in what people are will to pay. There is really no easy guild to look at to say "my car is worth $XXXX". That would make it too easy.
The NADA Collector Guild
here May give a different value.

Gary

A lot of people when buying a used car from a private party will use Kelly Blue Book as a strong guide.
If you try to buy a used car from a dealer they will strongly stick to KBB or NADA;
BUT, if you try to trade in a car to a dealer they will give you about one third of the used car trade in value listed in KBB.
It really makes you want to strangle them.
The best way to get the value of your car is to see what they are selling for in the local paper.

Going back a few years, when I was in the business...

•Blue Book: used for "Special financing" finance companies/ transactions.
•NADA: conventional financing banks/loans.
•Black Book: mostly used by used car dept. to appraise "ACV"(actual cash value) on trade-ins.
Usually shows lower trade in value.

Been out of it for a while, but I doubt things have changed much.

i know its only worht what someone will pay and im not really ever going to sell it unless something really bad happens, it was just interesting

strangle who????

Blue Book, Nada, Black Book... Yes it is the same. I can't respect any person who would want to strangle another for trying to makie a profit. Most respectable dealers give a fair trade in value considering the service work, certification process, clean up, detailing and warranty that goes into reselling a pre-owned vehicle. "If it's worth all that then I say you need to sell it your self..." Yes, I sell vehicles for a living. I would never want to strangle another for trying to provide for their family. :D

i work at a honda dealer in the service dept, and all i know is they seem to make a killing on those trade ins......even after the work is done.....they really dont give much at all for trade ins these days. and if they do, they just jack up the interest rate or something else

I just sold my Audi to an Audi dealer and I didn't walk away feeling ripped off. It was a 2002 that I bought used in 2002 for $24K, I just sold it to an Audi dealership for $20,500. It had 2,000 miles on it when I bought it, I sold it with 20,000+ miles on it. I think I made out alright.
