How many HA's can say: "I have/had maxed out my combo at some point in time". Does not matter if it is a 10 or 16 second car, but you feel it is/was maxed out.

Combo = Whatever you have on the car, does not matter.

I don't think the capabilities are very much a secret in this section, so it be nice to see "what the maxed out combo ran". No, I am not talking 40 lbs of boost and no KR, I am talking MPH in the 1/4.

Bet not too many reply, which proves the point. (Hope I am wrong! )

You left one out.

I have not maxed out my combo.

12.9 @ 104.8
8.2 @ 84.65

18psi with a 1.9xx 60ft.

My 85 went 12.58@106 with a stock turbo, headers, dp, and exhaust pipes, but no muffler. The only mods being a fuel pump, adjustable fuel pressure regulator, AC CR43TS plugs, K&N, custom chip, electric fan, and careful porting of the exhaust manifolds. The turbo and intake were untouched, and the engine was unopened with 141,000. This was with 20 lbs boost. It ran 12.9's@103 most times. This was a good air night. I think it was maxed out. Porting the turbo inlet, and exhaust elbow might have helped, but now I will never know unless I buy another hot air car.

Now that's tuning.

It took 3 years, and racing every week, sometimes twice a week. I was 16 when I got the car, and was clueless. Luckly, I worked with some guys that had intercooled cars, and one of them burned chips. I bought hand me down parts, and we fine tuned some race chips. Of course I was told by my coworkers it won't get out of the 15's, but by the time I started working there, the car had went 13.5's, so they shut up really quick. I still want another hot air car to see if I can go faster.

Besides him, I dont think many of us can say that their combo is maxed out.

Mine is definitely not maxed out for a long shot. I'd love to think I will, but I dont know how the way things can turn. I think right now my car is capable of low 12's, at this point it's feeling really rich and I'm working my way up on trying to correct this, my job is definitely not helping at all on this, besides the money part. :)

MAxed??

Since i am in the middle of a build up (sometimes i feel like i am in over my head) the only thing i can do is read & learn. Hopefully not make too many mistakes along theway. My goal is to carefully put this thing together this winter then in the spring & summer learn how to tune

Maybe we should try and throw together a basic mod list (staged maybe?) with the times/dyno they are supposed to have. That way people can get the mods, get the suggested times/hp dialed in and move on. Might be a cool idea that way people don't just keep throwing parts at the car and make minimal advances.

BTW, sorry to bring up an old post but I just read it and thought I had a good idea for once ;)

Not even close with the current combo. Beat a Viper GTS and a couple R6s at 18-19psi and only 21 degrees of timing. Broke the tranny preparing to race my friend's 704hp Mercedes once the boost hit 22psi and have never tried turning up the wick since. No point on street tires anyway.

I had my old TA49/DP/ported intake/headers/small cam combo pretty maxed. At 25psi, 28 degrees of timing, I pulled another GTS by about 2 cars through the 1/4. The difference with that combo was that instead of pulling away on the top end I held my two car advantage that I pulled up to 60mph and couldn't pull away any more.

I believe it. My dad's 84 only had a filter, chip, adjustable regulator, electric fan, and open down pipe. Boost was at 20psi on pump gas and went 14.0@100mph. Could've been a mid 13s car on tire.

BlueTA, I think a list showing mods and gains would be great. The tendency is to just throw new parts and expect it to bring results at the track. It will also give people an idea who are just starting to make mods like myself.

Anybody want to start one or throw some ideas? I've been out of the HA world for a couple years now and I don't remember much about gains :o I'll start a new post about this to stop the hijacking ;)
