Or said another way...when should one consider installing steel caps??

Thanks, Bob

Me too. Stock block (and internals), heads, intake and exhaust (except THDP).

Kevin Wood's unopned 30,000 mile T runs low 11's. I have ran low 11's with several stock bottom end TR's.

Here's something to think about. Whether it's true or not, I leave to you.

The bottom of the block is weak. A girdle is better than caps, but both are best. Pulling the motor and installing a girdle and caps is a big job, resulting in major expense.

If you're going to go that far you might as well get in line for an aluminum block, or a stage block, and put your 109 block on an engine stand in the corner of your garage.

:)

Right before the stock center (2-3 ) cast caps crack , if you have the motor out for "any reason"and you plan on racing install the billet caps ,girdles are for girls:p

ahhhh Melissa's motor is gettin a girdle an new pistons as we speak....guess Ill have to tell her she needs an aluminum block:p

I've gone 11.38 on the motor I'm running now... it's a .040 over block, hypereutectic pistons, 2 dot rods, and a N/A crank. I've been running between 11.38-70 all this season (50 runs +).

However, I have another motor that I WILL have at least the two center caps put in, if not a girlde as well. Email Jason Cramer and see what he says.

Run good gas and leave it alone. If you detonate it and can't tune it properly, you may have issues prematurley.

How about a 10.83 on a stock bottom end (including pistons)?!
I've been going 11 teens for 3 years now on the same rebuild.
No caps or girdle on my motor.

FWIW my wife's Blue T has gone 11.48 with a stock bottom end, no caps and a non turbo (NA) crank, of course car is always kept full of 116 leaded with good O2's and no knock.

Both my cars have bone stock bottom ends. One mid 11's and other low 11's. Not sure how long though before boom. Important thing is no detonation. I am trying to get my T-Type high 10's once then back off to mid 11's unless I decide to girdle it.

fwiw,geno ran 9.9 @ 136 with 2 billet mains and no detonation.:).the short block is in my dad's garage:D.
