Neil...

Art Carr's kit is a very simple kit to install and works very well.
However, you DO NOT get a plate with it. But , I would NOT let that discourage me on deciding to purchase or not.

If you would like, we offer a valve body modification kit as well. Simple concise and totally reversable if desired for any reason. Ours does come with a plate .
You are more than welcome to call or visit the website.

well see the thing is, that it isnt the orgional valve body in the car, so i dont know if that makes a difference in using a kit or not, but i told them that a big portion of the TR community uses Art Carr kits.. they just said to make sure it has a plate...

thanks for the info

I just put the Art Carr kit in my GN last weekend. Pretty simple install, comes with all the neccesary gaskets, drill bit, tranny filter, intstructions etc. It really wasn't difficult to do, but trying to do it with the car on a lift and tranny fluid dripping on you constantly was pretty annoying. Other than that it's just a few holes, some different springs, and a few less check balls here and there ;) My tranny shifts nice and firm and will give me the occasional nitto tire chirp under moderate throttle. I got my kit through Kirban's, and i think it was $79 bux or something like that.

shift kit

The thing you have to understand, every shift kit out there assumes your valve body is in stock form. Unless you know specifically where and how it has been altered, you may not get the desired results from a kit. Many people drill valve bodies and hack things up to acheive something that could be down with just altering a shift plate.
I like the kit Bruce sells at PTS due to the fact it is pre-drilled and does not rely on you to do precision machining operations on it. It is reversable simply by re-installing your old shift plate. It was only $75. Art Carr's kit is also a good one from what I have heard, but you have to do your own drilling (steady hands and good eyes required):o . Which ever way you go, you would be a winner I think.:D
