Astro Roof or ASC Roof...?

i purchased an 87 GN with a power sunroof. has asc sunroof paperwork with the rest of the docs with car. Is there a difference between the term "astro roof" and this option or are they the same thing. has the RPO code CF5, but the trim around the roof opening has a raised lip.....instead of a smooth rolled oening ive seen on other TR with a astro roof option....is this right?

ASC Sunroof

My brothers GN has a ASC sunroof and the switch says ASC. Also it tilts up in a vent postion as well.

ASC was the company that made sunroofs for these cars. As in the cars that were optioned for the sunroof were sent to ASC and done there. But also some dealerships did this also, but werent as good as the ASC.

were the asc units power or pop up sunroofs, mine is a power unit and the switch does not say asc on it.

Only the "CF5", mirrored glass sunroofs are considered Astroroofs. The CF5 uses the same switch as the passenger power window, and is up in the headliner above the mirror. It only slides back & forth, no tilt. It also has a small access hole that allows you to use a allen head wrench to close the roof incase of motor failure or dead battery. A rare thing to find is the factory supplied allen wrench and paperwork.

thanks again roc87....i have the paper work for the allen wrench and the asc sunroof paperwork but no wrench though..lol... the roof only goes forward and backward no tilt but does not have the mirror look finish on the glass.it does however have the code CF5. confused by this...? it does have the switch that looks like the passenger window switch. is it possible someone ordered this car with the astro roof and wasnt installed until after it was delivered to the dealership?

hey roc87....does your gn with asto roof have that raised lip around the roof opening, its about a quarter inch or so in width, or does it have a smooth rolled edge around it. just about all the ones ive seen have the smooth edge opening.

Smooth rolled edge. Have seen nearly every angle possible on it the last few weeks. Replaced weatherstrip & headliner, and hope I never have to do it again.

The ASC sunroof has the 1/2" lip. A few years back, I went to the local ASC distributor here said those moonroof were discontinued and he didn't have the exact seals.

He said he could reseal with what they had in stock for about $200 or retro-fit a new $400 moonroof. I decided not to drive in the rain.
