Was this thing ever replaced/redesigned? I have never been able to get it to seal 100% because the darn thing is not even close to lining up with the header. I know its not because of the Poston header because I sat a stock up-pipe in its place and it lined up fine. Besides I had this up-pipe before I got the Poston headers and it never fit well with the stock header. I dont think its just me because I could have sworn I read others here with the same problem.
Ive had my ATR up-pipe for quite sometime but I know that they have a lifetime warranty on their parts so IF they have been redesigned I should be able to swap mine for a good one?

I had the same problem. I put on a set of Poston headers and the stock uppipe fit perfect. Six month's later the original uppipe died and I bought a new solid one from Poston(probably an ATR). It never fit at all and caused the turbo to rock towards the fire wall.
Solution- Returned the solid uppipe and bought two originals(one spare) in A condition from the parts wanted section. Buick had it right with the stock braided uppipe which allows for some play. Good luck. Brad

Thanks Brad. Ive got a few stock up-pipes laying around. In fact I was tempted to put one on the other day but forgot that the end that bolts to the turbo needs a exhaust flange gasket. Is this gasket easy to come by? Say from AZ or Advanced, O'reiley's, Napa, etc. Or is a special order deal from a TB vendor?

TIA

If youre talking about the lead-donut type gasket, then i know for a fact that Advance-Discount auto-parts stocks one, as I bought one a few weeks ago.... i literally just threw away the packaging yesterday while cleaning out my garage, so i cant give you a part number, but it was in their computer system, under 85 regal with the turbo motor... they ahve a few different "exhaust gaskets" listed for the various exhaust gaskets in the car, and the computer didnt specify which one was for which part of the exhaust system (like it didnt say "turbine inlet gasket" or something like that) so the parts guy ahd to grab a few different parts to see which is the one i wanted, but they had it there in stock, for like 5-10 bucks, and it fit in there perfectly... i would assume other typical auto aprts stores would stock it as well.

Up Pipe!!

Postons also sells an up pipe, seals much better than the ATR unit. It has a wider mushroom flange at the bottom were most leaks usually occur. Ordered one last year and have been leak proof ever since.

Good to know. I know we are modding mine due to this issue. The one from advanced works? That's even good to know. Let you know how the mod goes. Nice to know about the poston one for anyone looking to do this.

ok i just instaled this new stock up pipe in my ride and i noticed that the openin that connects to the header is abit more opened up than the stock one i had on there it fits and evrything but i notice a big leak riht there ill hit 10 lbs and then u can feel it is there a gasket for that between the up pipe and header? is that wat u guys r lookin for?

I havent had any luck finding the donut/flange gasket for the up-pipe to turbo connection anywhere. Checked AutoZone, Advanced, Carquest, Napa, and O'Reiley's. No one has it. Some of them after looking it up brought out a Felpro one that was much too big.

Same problem with mine. It leaks between my KB headers and uppipe. It blows out toward the back of the car.

I kinda expected that would be the case when i went looking for one, but the Advanced-Discount right down the street from me had one in stock... maybe i was just lucky?

3 of wat bad ? the gasket between the up pipe and header? or the one between the up pipe and turbo?

No gasket between uppipe and header. Gasket is between turbo and uppipe.

1bad84gn, whats the part#?

Im thinking of cutting my ATR uppipe in half and trying to weld it back the way it needs to be to line up with the header. Only problem, Im not setup to weld stainless. Does anyone know if ATR ever reworked their 84/85 uppipe? If so then I will try to exchange it.

the jays gn parts up pipe has the flex in it to seal properly looks nice for under 200 bucks anybody have one of these yet

I like the JAYGN design after looking at it on their website. It is pricey but I lost an EBAY bid on virtually new 85 uppipe for $230. The Poston uppipe works on stock passenger side header-not with a Poston passenger side header. I have been there and wasted my time and money. The stock uppipe works with the Poston passenger header(Thats why I have two). I do not know about the ATR uppipe. Personally, I think GM got it right with the braided uppipe-JAYGN obviously agrees. Just my experience.

I have a few stock uppipes laying around all I need to know is how the heck am I going to seal it up to the turbo!? I cant seem to be able to find the gasket anywhere. Looked at my stock '84 the other day thinking whether or not I was going to rob from it and it didnt take long to decide that I shouldnt. I noticed the metal flange piece with bolt holes in it too (forgot about that). I know its gonna be tough finding one of those, let alone the correct donut gasket. Sooo, for you guys/gals who have been dealing with the stock uppipe lend me your knowledge. I have been using the ATR pipe ever since I put the car together back in '98 so I had the flat copper gasket at the turbo connection. When I put the stock car together I had no idea how special that one gasket I had was.

TIA

6sense,

If youre really in a bind, i can swing by the place that sold me my donut gasket and buy 1 or 2 and ship em out to ya. Lemme know if youd want that.
