Autocross 6/12/11

This morning I seen where my buddy Bill was putting on an Auto-X event for the Challenger/Charger guy's from Challengerforumz.com right here at our stadium so I decided to take a nice cruise over there and watch those cars and see how they do. Once there Bill asked me if I was gonna run and of course I replied Sure! Bill was there with his 1972 charger that has been autocrossed & road raced all over the country several times and he had the time to beat with a 68.753.... I lined up (not even walked the track or nothing) and went a 75.423 and on my second run I knocked it down to a 73.143.. Never hit a single cone on either run!! This was all in the 96* heat with no shaded areas at all and my car never got above 180*...

Out of 13 cars Bill had the fastest time and I had the second fastest! :biggrin:

Some of those challengers had excess of 700 hp too!


I had a great time but never grabbed any of my cameras before leaving the house today so hopefully some of the challenger people got some pic's or video of my runs then I will post them up here...

We are very impressed with the GNS Test Car after todays event. The car that had almost the Exact time as ours was driven by my friend Bill Howell and it was the 2010 Dodge Challenger built by Richard Petty. This is a very impressive car that is just beautiful and fast!

I think it is very impressive that the old 1986 Buick put up the exact time as the Petty built car that was driven by a guy who has attended many autocross / road course events across the country. It's safe to say we can eliminate driver on this one as I consider Bill to be a much better driver than me!

My time: 73.5
Petty car: 73.5 (Need clarification on the last two numbers)

I have $6,500 in Suspension & Brake mods compared to the Petty built Challenger mods. Look at the list below and you be the judge! These ol Buicks CAN be built to handle and run with some of the best built vintage cars and even the new modern cars!! :biggrin:

Nice work. I like to see something besides the same old drag racing stuff with the same 5 people in the middle of nowhere racing next to a corn field. The challenger looks tough and almost has a gn demeanor to it with that nice satin black paint. The part that sucks on those cars is they are so heavy. For your lil ole 86 Buick to post the same numbers shows you have done your homework. Great job. I look forward to the pics and videos.

Rick the brakes were perfect all day. It is amazing how deep I can dive into the turns now vs the stock brakes! Still using the pads that come with the brake kits too!

It's a pretty neat feeling when you pull your car out of the garage and take it for a nice drive to an event and pull it right onto the course without doing a single thing to it (not even checking the tire pressure), put down a very respectable time and drive it home.
