AVI to MPEG?

Anyone here that can tell me how to convert an AVI (from a digital camera) to the MPEG format?

I've got a few short AVI clips but they are huge compared to what an MPEG will size.

Use TMPG Encoder
BTW, AVI is a "family" of file extensions. I can think of at least 6 codecs (Coder/Decoder) that keep the AVI file extension. The most popular right now is Divx which can really compress a video file.

Ok... I got the program downloaded and they are Zip files. What do I do with them? I've got them displayed in the Zip File directory and I even used the .exe file to start it. But when I tried to convert one of the .AVI files, it said it wasn't supported.

Duh... what am I doing wrong?
